Exposición de Nacimientos – There will be an exhibit of nativity scenes from the Republican Era until 6/1/2019 on the 2nd floor of the Museo Pumapungo.
Chorus and symphony – The OSC will perform a Christmas program with Soloists and the Chorus from the Fundación Cultural MusArtEH Thursday in the iglesia de La Merced y and Friday in the main church in Sígsig.
Fotografías – “Y cuando yo me vaya” (And when I go), an exhibit of photos of trades that are becoming extinct opened Thursday in “La Vitrina” (Pres. Córdova y Luis Cordero). Students at the colegio Benigno Malo are using their cellphone cameras to record trade and crafts that are disappearing from Cuenca. <Kind of ironic – how many trades might those phones have replaced?> The exhibit will run through diciembre.
Cemuart – The Centro Artesanal Municipal (Cemuart) will be having Christmas related activities until 25/12 including an exhibit of nativities which were entries in a contest last week.
Exposición – “Atlas de un país desconocido” (Atlas of an unknown country) by Fernando Falconí opened Thursday in the Saladentro (Todos Santos sector).
Muestra – “Las secuelas del alma” (The aftermath of the soul) by Jorge Luis Custa Lazo is showing in the Búnker Espacio Cultural in Challuabamba.

Museo de la Energía – This museum is located in the Central Hidroeléctrica Arturo Salazar Orrego in Saymrín. The plant which generated 6.4 megawatts, was built between 1952 and 1956 by the Empresa Eléctrica Miraflores which no longer exists. Two turbines, made in Germany, can be seen.

Machángara – The upper watershed for the Río Machángara has supplied potable water klto Cuenca, power for the entire country and irrigation water to farms for 2 decades. Two dams feed the Elecaustro’s Central Hidroeléctrica Saucay which generates 24 mv. A lower reservoir supplies the Saymirín plans which generates 15.5 mv. after which the water goes to ETAPA’s potable water plant in Tixán and to irrigation systems in Machángara and Ricaurte with about 2,000 users each.
An alliance among the water users, the Comité de conservación de la cuenca del Machángara (Committee for the conservation of the Machángara watershed), has been formed to preserve and care for the water ecosystem. The organic farmers in the watershed sell their products in Cuenca at the Elecuasto building (12 de Abril y José Peralta, esq.) with the next sale on viernes, 28/12.
