Motorshow II Edición 2018 – There will be some 50 different makes of vehicles at this autoshow which will open este jueves, 22/11 in the Mall del Río. Financial agencies will be there if you want to buy a car. There will also be a raffle for a trip, with tickets costing $1.00.
Bingo – The Comité de Damas del Colegio de Ingenieros Civiles del Azuay (CICA -Ladies Committee of the Azuay Association of Civil Engineers) is holding a Bingo de Solidaridad el jueves, 22/11 a las 15:30 en el Hotel Oro Verde. Prodeeds will fund the committee’s social work. Cost: $10.00
The National Ballet of Ecuador and the Cuenca Symphony Orchestra present Tchaikovsky’s El Cascanueces (Nutcracker Suite) Thursday, Friday and Saturday, November 22, 23 and 24 at the Carlos Cueva Tamariz Theater on the University of Cuenca campus. Performances begin at 8 p.m. and are free.

Titular – Quimsacocha, recomiendan la consulta (Quimsacocha, referendum recommended) – As one of its last resolutions, the temporary National Electoral Council has recommended that the voters of Girón and its rural parishes of San Gerardo and Unión hold a referendum on mining in Quimsacocha. $24 million to Ecuador from 3 non-profits – One Swiss and 2 US ONG (Organización No Gubernamental) have signed agreements to contribute $24 million over the next 4 years. The Swiss ONG will contribute $841,000 in the area of juvenile justice and social development in 7 provinces including Azuay. The US ONG, Island Conservation, has a $1.5 million environmental project in the Galápagos, and World Vision International will focus on social aid to children and adolescents.
Attention dog owners – EMAC reminds dog owners that the fine for not picking up poop is from 10-40% of the basic salary. <That is about $380 so you can do your own math. Heirs claiming part of the Complejo Deportivo La Gloria – A family is starting legal action for compensation from the Municipio for about 5,000 m. sq. of land which is now part of the sports field in the sports complex. A family member said that his grandmother was the owner of the land which passed to her heirs. He started this claim 6 years ago and is still waiting for a response. <So it’s not just unwary gringos who have problems with real estate transactions.>
Money changing – The Banco Central announced that it will no longer change bills and coins at the Casa Lamar location. The service will now be offered only at the cashier windows on the lower floor of their main building on calle Larga y Huayna Cápac from lunes a viernes and from 8:30-15:30.
