Teatro – “La Mujer Judía” (The Jewish Woman), based on a work by Bertolt Brecht will premier Friday a las 19:00 in the Sala Amarilla en la Casa Museo Remigio Crespo.
Sinfónica – The Orquesta Sinfónica de Cuenca (OSC) will perform Friday a las 20:00 in the Teatro Pumapungo with guest pianist Alex Alarxón Fabre. The program will include Fantasía Ecuatoriana by Corsino Durán, Concierto Fantasía by Luis Humberto Salgado, and Sinfonía No. 8 in Fa Major by Beethoven. Free.
VIII Festival Titiricuenca – The 8th edition of the Cuenca International Puppet Festival will be del 10-25/11 with shows at 11:30, 18:00 and 19:00 in the Pumapungo and Sucre Theaters, the patio of the Provincial Court of Justice and in other cantons and parishes. Puppeteers from España, Colombia, Canadá, Ecuador, Bolivia y Argentina will participate.
Book launch – A book of 12 stories, “La certeza del imaginario” (The certainty of the imaginary) by Aquiles Jimbo will be launched hoy (jueves) a lass 19:30 in the CCE.

Taller de Gastronomía – There will be a gastronomic workshop el sábado de 9-13:00 en la Alianza Francesa with French chef Marc Dullin. The workshop will cover techniques for filleting and deboning round fish <as opposed to flat fish like sole and flounder?> and preparing other dishes.
Cajas App – The “Parque Nacional Cajas” is an app that makes it easier for visitors to hike in the Cajas. It’s available in the “Play Store” for phones and tablet using Android. The app has two parts – the first contains general information about the park such as its biodiversity, climate, hours, etc. The second allows the user to download maps of 15 routes and paths that are in the park. Once you’ve downloaded the app. and you go to the park, activate your GPS, and open the maps. You can then see where you are without being connected to internet. <Does GPS work that way? Remember it’s technology and I’m the biggest dummy around.> The app will be available in Apple’s App Store next week for devices on iOS. <So did that answer the question you were going to ask?>

Pyramid schemes – A new pyramid scheme as appeared in Azuay on Facebook. The scheme promises to return $5,200 in one month for an initial investment of $650 in cash. <Most gringos shouldn’t have to worry since most of you don’t understand enough Spanish to fall for this.> The condition is that each “investor” must bring in two more suckers. TAME – The government airline has taken steps to clarify and clean up its finances and to recuperate its domestic market after a demolishing report from the Comptroller which talks of millions in losses. The general manager, Octavio Pérez, said that the information which came to light this week was asked for by the airline. He said the company is in the process of verifying the financial state of the airline which has not been audited since 2012. According to the report, TAME accumulated losses of $145 million which exceeded 100% of the capital of the company by more than $67 million in 2015 – losses that question its viability. <Maybe it’s time to shut it down and let some real airlines take over?>
Yasuni – The transitional National Electoral Commission reviewed the Yasunidos case and recommended the organization send the referendum question about exploiting crude oil in Bloque 43 (Yasuni ITT) to the Corte Constitucional. The Commission is in the process of qualifying the signatures sent to the prior Electoral Commission which threw out about 100,000 signatures. If they were valid, they would not need to be requalified in a new referendum. The referendum question was “Are you in agreement with keeping the oil in Yasuni in the ground forever? ¿Yes or No?
Odebrecht – Colombia rejected an offer from Odebrecht to pay damages of $33.8 million in order to settle cases of corruption against it. La Procuraduría, la Fiscalía, y la Contraloría (the Attorney General’s, the Prosecutor’s, and the Comptroller’s Offices) who represent the country in the case all rejected the settlement. This was the third offer made by Odebrecht. Earlier, Ecuador had rejected a repayment plan from Odebrecht. <A case of a bad penny always turning up? I wonder how much more Colombia thinks it will be awarded from Odebrecht?>
Tranvía – The Tranvía consortium ACTN has notified the City that the work is completed. The city will form a commission for the provisional reception of the work. The commission will be made up of delegates from the Mayor and members of Artelia Ville & Transport which is in charge of project management and supervision.
