Teatro – “Para! ¿No? ¿Ya?” will be staged el viernes a las 20:00 in Break (Bolívar 10.31 y Padre Aguirre). Cost: $5.00.
Bienal – The closing ceremony will be el sábado a las 19:00n in the auditorium of MMAM. The books, “Nomadismos/ Bienal de Cuenca” and “Amazonías, lecturas ultra-contemporáneos sobre artistas visuales de Brasil” (“Nomadismos / Biennial of Cuenca” and “Amazonia, ultra-contemporary readings about visual artists from Brazil” were launched today in the Casa Bienal.

Alianza Francesa – The Alianza is part of a worldwide program of “La Noche de las Ideas” (The Night of Ideas) every jueves a las 19:00. This year’s theme is “De cara al presente” (Looking to the present). The next meeting will be el jueves, 21/2 about “Madagascar y sus culturas.”
Concierto – The OSC will perform Mahler´s 5th symphony mánana a las 20:00 in the Catedral Vieja.
Rotofest 2019 – The 2019 edition of the Festival de Música Electrónica Rotofest was announced today in Roma Alley.

VI Festival de la Producción Bulán 2019 – This festival in Bulán parish will be el sábado. Tourists will be able to buy fruit directly from the producers. There will be about 50 vendors selling applies, capulí (local cherries), apricots, reina claudia (yellow plums), peaches, tomate, babaco, pears and more. There will also be entertainment with dance bands Sol y Arena and Los Caballeros Internacionales.

Festival del Capulí – The 6th Capulí Festival will be este domingo in the community of Zhapacal in Luis Cordero Parish. It will include electing a festival queen, and a gastronomic fair. Products derived from capulí such as jam, wine, ice cream and the famous “Pulchaperro” will be featured. The festival will start at 9:00am and will run into the afternoon.

Titular – Descontento popular se vuelca a las calles (Popular discontent turns to the streets) – El Frente Unitario de Travajadores (FUT – the largest workers’ group in Ecuador), marched against the Government’s latest economic measures and against privatizing National businesses.
Refinería del Pacífico – The Consejo de Participación Ciudadana transitorio (CPCCS-T) asked the Attorney General to link ex-VP Jorge Glas, ex-Comptroller Carlos Pólit, and current assemblywoman Pabel Muñoz to the investigation the Manabí Prosecutor’s Office is conducting on alleged misuse of public funds in the Pacific Refinery project. <Are there any of Correa’s major projects that didn’t involve corruption?>
Emergencia de movilidad humana – The Ministry of Foreign Relations and Human Mobility extended the emergency in human mobility until 28/2 in Carchi, el Oro and Pichincha provincees. According to the State Department, 1.3 Venezuelans have entered the country in the last 4 years with about 250,000 staying.
Sistema de drenaje – ETAPA is inspecting areas with sewer problems to correct them. The pipes are too small and their useful life is 20-25 years, but there are pipes built 30-40 years ago. With the growth of Cuenca and changes in land use <A lot more paving, therefore a lot more runoff into the sewer system), the originally designed sewers aren’t big enough. <A good excuse to dig up Gran Colombia, LaMar, and Las Américas again.>
“La Momia de Guano” – This mummy from a city in the central Andes might be the lost link to understanding the expansion of poliartritis arthritis in Europe. French scientist Philippe Charlier will study the mummy whose hands and feet show deformations typical of this disease which orginated in Latin America. <Take this arthritis in exchange for your smallpox.> Studies during the conquista show that there were many cases of this arthritis in América but it was rare in Europe and Asia.
Tranvía – The City of Cuenca and the Consorcio Cuatro Ríos de Cuenca (CCRC), the previous Tranvía contractor, are going into arbitration in Paris before the Corte de Comercio Internacional (International Trade Court).
Bus accident – There were 2 injuries on a Cooperativa Expresss Sucre bus on the Cuenca-Guayaquil route. The bus and a truck sideswiped each other about 5:20am el miércoles at the Puerto Inca sector in Naranjal. A pedestrian was also injured. <I’m concluding that bus accidents aren’t going to go away any time soon here.>
