Hola, Todos –

Pagina cultural –

Cine latinamericano – The Latin American film for hoy a las 19:00 in the La Guarida (Mariscal La Mar y Luis Pauta) will be “María llena eres de gracia,” a film about drug trafficking mules.

El Niño de Cuenca – For the first time in 520 years, this sculpture will leave the Catedral La Inmaculada along with the Pesebre Cuencano to stay at the Economuseo Casa del Sombrero until 18/1/2019. <Now that Niño definitely qualifies as a homebody – not leaving the house for 520 years?>

Cuenca’s Catedral La Inmaculada

Concurso – There will be an interscholastic contest for ecological pesebres (nativity scenes) at the Centro Cultural Municipal El Cebollar (Calle del Morro y Av. Abelardo J. Andrade) which starts today and will run to 17/12 a las 8:00.

“Diagnóstico Terminal” – This large scale installation will be in the old Social Security hospital until 31/12.

Otras cosas –

Titular – Navidad llega un mes antes a los comercios (Christmas arrives a month ahead at stores) – <You’d have to be incarcerated to not have noticed that.> Merchants are offering specials and discounts that started on Viernes Negro (Black Friday) and continuing into the next days. Merchants at El Arenal <like that’s a big gringo shopping destination> are open from 8-19:00, and on the 23 & 24 <for all you procrastinators>, until 22:00.

Patrimonio – El próximo sábado, Cuenca will commemorate 19 years since it was designated as a UN World Heritage Site. The characteristic architecture was one of the keys in awarding this title, but there is still a lack of work to make the population conscious of the importance of preserving and encouraging care for the historic buildings.

Christmas lighting – The lights on the domes of the Catedral La Inmaculada were turned on over the weekend. The lights, imported from Europe, can change color according to the celebration and cost about $200,000. Installation of other lighting in different areas of the city including all the parish centers, is proceeding. The tree in Otorongo is being built in spite of the rains and will be ready for the lighting ceremony on 6/12.

Today is National Anthem Day. <For you trivia pursuit folks>
