IESS and private insurance. What is the best combination?

IESS and private insurance. What is the best combination?

Some of my clients often ask me if it is necessary to join IESS and have private insurance at the same time.

The answer is: use IESS for simple illnesses. And for major medical expenses, get private insurance.

Why should I do this?
IESS is an option, especially if the person has several pre-existing conditions and is taking medications, e.g., for high blood pressure, cholesterol, etc.
IESS could also be used for consultations with general practitioners for annual check-ups, to treat migraines, and for consultations with specialists (if you have patience), in addition to blood tests, ultrasounds, nothing complicated.

But you need to know that the IESS is not for catastrophic illnesses, accidents or complex surgeries.
According to the article published about IESS, members are no longer referred to private hospitals, but only in very specific cases.

With these clear points, IESS is definitely NO for major events.
If you have IESS, I will be happy to advise you, according to your needs. Without obligation and free of charge.

Health Care insurance rejections SOLVED!

In the last 5 years that I have worked with expat and national clients, I have never had major issues in processing clients’ claims. As long as the broker and the agent have a high level of knowledge regarding the insurance contracts, it is not a complicated process. I have more than 100 clients and have never had to submit a case or appeal to the Superintendence of Companies.

The following is a situation that occurred recently.
My 68-year-old client was admitted to the Santa Ines Hospital due to an emergency. After being evaluated, he had Cardiac Arrhythmia. At the time of requesting the Hospital Credit (which allows you to not have to pay out of pocket. You pay only the copayment and the deductible) it was DENIED since the diagnosis was related to a pre-existence condition: Hypertension.

I immediately contacted the treating physician who confirmed that my client’s arrhythmia was not caused by hypertension; but by an alteration of the thyroid gland. I sent an email to the insurance company where the treating doctor explained that the diagnosis had no relationship with the pre-existence condition and attached my client’s medical history.

His short stay at the hospital totaled …

Recommendation for Daniela Cordero, Millenial Brokers health insurance in Cuenca

I recommend Daniela Cordero for health insurance in Cuenca When I found myself getting nowhere with my then insurance company, I called Daniela Cordero whose ad I saw. https://cuencaexpatinsurance.com/ After a couple of emails, an appointment to discuss policies, I had an insurance policy by the end of my appt. day. No hassles, no bartering, and no problems getting my questions answered.

Daniela makes herself available to her clients 24/7 in case of medical emergencies. She will refer you, most likely, to a physician who speaks English. She will follow you through your visit, hospital visits if any, and the final paperwork to get reimbursed. Contact Daniela to figure out your health insurance needs. Rest assured that, if needed, she will make your insurance work for you. I recommend Millennial Brokers.

An Overview of the Prepaid Medicine Law in Ecuador and How to Use it in Your Favor – BLUE BOX INSURANCE BROKER

An Overview of the Prepaid Medicine Law in Ecuador and How to Use it in Your Favor – BLUE BOX INSURANCE BROKER

Prepaid medicine insurance in Ecuador consists of different processes than ones you may be used to. This is because the reimbursement process in Ecuador is carried out by the affiliate. Additionally, “the organic law of Ecuador regulates companies that finance comprehensive care services of prepaid health and insurance companies that offer medical assistance insurance coverage,” in order to support the insurance company and the affiliate. This law was created with the intention of regularizing the operation of prepaid medicine companies in Ecuador, through regulations that define the commitments made by both parties.
The regulations contain key articles that you must know to correctly document your claims with a company, and be able to demand your rights as an affiliate. Next, I will share the most important ones, and at the end I will provide you with a link where you can find the complete document in Spanish (one of the limitations of the law is the prohibition of the translation into other languages of this document and the contract of health that you acquire with the insurer).

Art. 34 – Pre-existence: Any disease, pathology or health condition that has been known by the user, beneficiary, affiliate, dependent or insured, …

The Importance of Getting a Second Doctor’s Opinion in Ecuador – By BLUE BOX INSURANCE BROKER

The Importance of Getting a Second Doctor’s Opinion in Ecuador – By BLUE BOX INSURANCE BROKER

A few months ago I received a call in the middle of the night from one of our clients who was  suffering from severe knee pain. His doctor had suggested immediate surgery on both of his knees at a price of $9,000, which immediately alarmed me. I contacted one of our other client’s doctors and got an appointment set for the next day. The other doctor concluded that physical therapy and medication would solve the issue, and for less than $2,000, without a painful surgery. This is just one of the many cases that I have seen in which the treating physician proposes an invasive procedure without considering the client’s specific situation or exploring other options first.
In Ecuador we have doctors who are highly trained to treat your health conditions at affordable costs, whether they be new or pre-existing. For this reason, we recommend that you consult with at least two doctors before making a final decision when it comes to large-scale medical procedures.
Getting a second medical opinion is crucial in order to verify the cost of procedures and treatment that your doctor is proposing. Medical prices vary extensively throughout Ecuador, especially in doctors offices that …

Health Insurance That Qualifies Under the New Law

With the new regulation to the Human Mobility Law, published in the official registry on March 10 of this year, several important points were modified for those who apply for the temporary visa for Retirees and rentiers. One of the changes is the requirement to contract a national or foreign health insurance plan that has coverage in Ecuador, for the duration of the visa (2 years). Due to legal issues, health insurance companies can NOT grant plans for a two-year term. So, the ministry authorities have decided that those who apply for this type of visa, may present a health insurance certificate with one-year coverage showing that it will be renewed the following year. It is necessary to have continual coverage during the term since this document, like all documents presented to obtain the visa, are subject to review at any time by the competent authorities.

I am at your service to advise you, present health insurance plans that meet the requirements to get your VISA and protect you with the best coverage when you need it.
