Join us this week for two new spectacular films and an incredible, delicious and nutritious dinner. We’ll be adding to the menu some Indian inspired dishes to honor Pather Panchali.

– PATHER PANCHALI –. May 17th (Tuesday, 6:45 PM).
Pather Panchali is described as a turning point in Indian cinema, as it was among the films that pioneered the Parallel Cinema movement, which espoused authenticity and social realism. It tells the story of a Bengali family driven by bad fortune. The father, Harihara, is a secular clerk, healer, dreamer and poet. Sabajaya, the mother, works to feed the family and receives with hope and joy the new birth of Apu. Widely considered one of the best films in history and we will be highlighting a few Indian inspired dishes.

– THE NORTHMAN –. May 18th (Wednesday, 6:45 PM).

Cambodia Chicken Soup & The 2 Year Old Lemon

Cambodia Chicken Soup & The 2 Year Old Lemon

This Saturday, May 14th, I will be serving my homemade chicken lemon soup. A traditional dish in Cambodia. This soup is a delicate balance of traditional homemade chicken soup but with a twist; lemon. Not just any lemon, in order to get the perfect lemon flavor without bitterness the lemons must go through a process cleaning, sun, sea salt and purified water. Only after being stored for six months are the lemons ready for my soup. One year is better and two years, Wow!

I have enough of my two-year old lemons to make 18-20 bowls of soup. My next batch of one-year old lemons won’t be ready until the middle of June. So, join me in a traditional Cambodian meal. A generous amount of chicken in a broth you will never forget and a mixed drink on the house as we celebrate “Cambodian chicken soup & the two year old lemon”

THE TRUMAN SHOW. Movies and Dinner at La Guarida.

La Guarida is happy to project the best selection of films in Cuenca. Come check out outstanding films on the big-screen:

THE TRUMAN SHOW
a film by Peter Weir

an Academy Award nominated film.

Wednesday, May 4th at 6:45 PM
Doors open at 5:30 PM
Reservations with dinner are required
Book now by calling 099 806 8071.

About
Seen at the time of its release as a poignant critique of reality television and the entertainment industry, Peter Weir’s 1998 film has developed an entirely different resonance in the age of internet surveillance, targeted advertising and ubiquitous social media. The film’s visual language, gender politics and representation of the panopticon are all worth revisiting twenty years on. For us, Jim Carrey at its finest.

La Guarida Cuenca is located at Mariscal Lamar and Luis Pauta. An easy Tranvia ride to La Cuadra station.

About
Our first ever Bhutanese film cannot be more heartwarming, beautiful and deep. An outstanding masterpiece that was nominated for Best Foreign film of the year by the Academy Awards. A disillusioned schoolteacher is transferred to the most remote school in the world, cut off from modern life deep in the Himalayan glaciers. In a classroom with no electricity or even a blackboard, he finds himself with only a yak and a song that echoes through the mountains. Simply incredible.
