Public Service Announcements

We are laying it all bare for you to see

Ever wonder what the non-profit you support really does? It can be confusing as non-profits are notorious for hiding the truth. We have all heard the stories. The success and strength of any organization is determined by what motivates it and the commitment of those involved with the organization. The story behind it. I believe and I am sure you do as well, that when you support any organization, you need to ask, why does it exist? What inspires it?  What does it do with my donations? Where is it going?

On Tuesday, November 30th, we are showcasing what we do and why. There will be a short presentation where you will hear the director’s personal story as to why Hogar de Esperanza was founded, where it is today, and what the vision for the future is. You will have the opportunity to stroll around an exhibition of all the services we provide, and you will get to meet many of the volunteers and staff of the foundation and ask questions.

We invite you to join us for an enjoyable and inspirational evening. Reservations are required as space is limited. All proceeds from the event will go to support our …

High rates of return + safety/security

Because many readers may not be familiar with Cooperco, I’d like to introduce this exceptional co-operative to you. Established in Cuenca in 1965, Cooperco has, until now, been focused almost exclusively on servicing the Cuencano community. That exclusive emphasis has begun to shift. In addition to continuing to serve the Cuencano community Cooperco, in 2020, expanded its capability to now include a strong initiative serving Cuenca’s international community. Starting from a decidedly strong base, Cooperco has only grown stronger. It is the cooperative that offers CDs with not only high rates of return but unparalleled safety and security of principal. That’s a combination that is hard to beat.

Cooperco has numerous offices throughout the city of Cuenca. We have English speaking account personnel that can easily explain our numerous CD options and, more importantly, how Cooperco provides a clear investment advantage. Check us out. Learn how Cooperco can help to make the difference for you. There is a reason that countless individuals as well as many financial institutions invest with us. We may not be the biggest but we are definitely the best. Call or email me for more information.

Cheers.

Here at Hogar de Esperanza we are opening new volunteer opportunities in our Thrift Shop.
We have time slots available for as little as 1 hour and up to 4 hours – any amount of time that you would like to give is very welcome.
You would be helping our store attendant, Mateo, with several tasks in keeping our Thrift Shop organized and appealing to customers. It is also an opportunity to practice your Spanish! And if your shift is around the lunch hour, then your lunch is always on us. Our Thrift Shop is a growing business thanks to the support from the expat community.
Volunteer hours are from 12 – 4pm Monday to Friday here at Hogar de Esperanza. We are located at Juan Montalvo 8-18 and Mariscal Sucre here in Cuenca.
If you are interested, feel free to send us an email. We are grateful for your help.

Are you ready for a quite different kind of “weather¨?

And get to know the beautiful, charming, and hardworking people of Naranjal? Hogar de Esperanza would like to invite you to join us on this Cultural trip to Naranjal.
Early June, Sandro received a phone call from a foundation in Naranjal, doing great work for people with Cerebral Palsy. They invite us over to see their facilities and talk a little bit of a way to collaborate between the two foundations. Reality can be so different from one place to another, and this was not the exception. Families struggling to get their sick kids to get a doctor’s appointment, patients needing transportation to come to get free physical therapy sessions in FDN. So, we want to bring all the help we can get. All proceeds from this trip will be donated to FDN Ecuador, to purchase food for families in extreme poverty.
Some of the highlights of the trip
·        Learn how to make chocolate from a Chocolatier
·        Tour of the cacao plantations.
·        Farm to Table style lunch both days.
·        Interpretation of the extraction of the red crab within the mangrove swamp
·        Boat trip through the estuary to observe dolphins, mangroves, and bird watching

*Includes transportation, lodging, …

Giving new purpose to things you no longer need

What does Hogar de Esperanza do with your donations of clothing and household items? First and foremost, we give them away to those who are most in need of them with great care taken to ensure that nothing goes to waste. Any extra items are sold in Esperanza Thrift Shop, where all of the proceeds go back into supporting the foundation’s mission of helping those in greatest need.

Are you moving soon – perhaps across town or maybe even back home – and you have items that you can’t take with you? Do you wish you had someone to come carry away those items remaining after your moving sale, that you don’t know what to do with? Were you just spring-cleaning last week, and came across clothes in your closets that you no longer wanted? If you would like to do some incredible things with those items you no longer need or want, let us turn them into something valuable to help those in need.

We accept anything that you wish to donate and put it to immediate use. You can come by Esperanza Thrift Shop, which is located at 8-18 Juan Montalvo y Mariscal Sucre, to drop off items …

Help Crea tu Espacio Foundation “Godmother and godfather for a day”.

As once Gandhi said: “Whatever you do in life will be insignificant but it is very important that you do it… you must be the change you want to see in the world”.

Dear Expat community, Crea tu Espacio Foundation is looking for your help. Currently, lots of children and teeneagers who comes from an internal and external immigration are suffering various violations of their rights, among the most important we highlight their right for an equal education. During COVID-19 this situation became more complicated where access to technology was a limitation for children to continue with their studies.

Because of this Crea tu Espacio Foundation luches the campaign “Godmother, Godfather for a day”, which seeks charitable people who wish to sponsor a child or adolescent in this new school year that has begun virtually. With your help we are going to be able to raise enough money and assure that our children and adolescents complete their studies and give them the opportunity to enter university that will help them to find a suitable and stable jobs. With your help we will be able to build a better future for our country and our world.

VISION STATEMENT
St. Christopher Episcopal Mission

In the future, St. Christopher’s Episcopal Mission (SCEM), in a collaborative successful partnership with Mision Sagrada Familia, will be a welcoming gathering place, a spiritual center in Cuenca and the surrounding neighborhood of a theologically humble group of believers worshipping God, meeting Jesus and demonstrating the practical love of Jesus to members, visitors and the poor.

Through action, SCEM will demonstrate what it means to be a follower of Jesus with a commitment to serve those in need by doing good works quietly, without fanfare or notice while fulfilling the question “what would Jesus do”?
