Police in Medellin, Colombia have arrested a California man for allegedly offering cash over Facebook to girls as young as 13 in exchange for sexual acts and possession of child pornography.

Thomas Renno after his arrest at the Medellin airport on Saturday.

The chief prosecutor’s office released a video Sunday showing Thomas Renno of Fairfax being handcuffed after arriving in Medellin from San Francisco. He was making his seventh trip to Colombia since 2017, during which time he is believed to have victimized several minors.

Renno used three Facebook profiles under the names Tom Renno, Tom Rene and Tom Reinolds to contact at least five girls and offer them up to $100 to accede to his propositions, investigators say. He also used the social network to share explicit photos and pornographic material.

The mother of one victim showed authorities her daughter’s cell phone, on which they found Renno’s telephone number and location data.
Phone messages left at what is believed to be Renno’s home were not returned. Renno had legal residency in Colombia.

Police believe other foreign residents may be involved in Renno’s sex network, including North Americans living in Ecuador. “We believe a number of North Americans are involved in this and other cases involving minor women,” police said in a statement. “We are also in touch with authorities in Cuenca and Quito [Ecuador] about possible associates of Renno in those cities.”
