Published every Monday, “What’s Happening Under the Domes” highlights the exhibits, concerts, workshops and other not-to-be-missed artistic events scheduled for the coming week. We cannot guarantee a complete listing, but we’ll try our best to keep you informed.
After a successful opening, the stunning photography exhibition, “ECUADOR Y MÁS: Su Tierra y Su Gente”, by Michael Hamilton, Burt Johnson and Evelyn Johnson continues this week and through January 7. Each photographer has a unique and different style – all beautiful and exciting! Come and see for yourself.

Cuenca International Chorale Christmas Candlelight Concerts
This year’s concert is under the direction of Maestro Alex Rodríguez with a guest appearance from Cuencordia. It is offered on two evenings, Monday, December 17 and Tuesday, December 18, at 8 p.m. Come early, the church will fill up fast.
Location at the Iglesia Santo Domingo on Gran Colombia y Padre Aguirre. The concerts are free, but donations are gratefully accepted.
Estudio de Arte Soriano-Maité Holiday Exhibition at idiomART!
Last week for the painting exhibition of popular artists Claudio Alberto Soriano Vitorino and Maria Teresa Eusebio (Maité). Special holiday prices — a great gift to any art lover!

Christmas Concert at Teatro Carlos Cueva
The Christmas Concert features choirs from the María José Rodríguez Conservatory, the University of Cuenca, and the University of Azuay with the University of Cuenca Orchestra under the direction of William Vergara.

Painting in the garden with Alberto Soriano
Free painting demonstration with renowned Peruvian artist Claudio Alberto Soriano Vitorino. Soriano is a master at oil, acrylic and watercolor. Demonstration to be held on the cover porch and garden at idiomART.

Boris Ordoñez Petroff’s Exhibition, “Connections” continues at CVA
Ecuadorian artist Boris Ordonez Petroff work seeks to disturb the observer in order to create interest in the questions that this generates about the state of being, wrapped in a world of uncertainty and confusion where answers are not found in the natural, material, or in the sense of being. This discomfort suggests and proposes that connections and disconnections exist that reveal to us who we are and who we are not. Come see for yourself.

Exposición – “Personajesen la historia del Periodismo cuencano”
This exhibition shares the history of Cuenca journalism and offers portraits of notable Cuencano journalists.
Open hours are Tuesday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to Noon.

“La Navidad Morlaca” at Teatro Pumapungo
Actress Juana Estrella based the work on Dicken’s A Christmas Story and casted 8 actors to share about their holiday experiences, sad and happy.

Sofia Palacios, chef and owner of Sofy Glocal Cuisine, is offering at her home a South American Christmas Buffet on Saturday, December 22. She will be creating specialized dishes from countries south of the equator, including doing an Uruguay traditional roasted whole lamb.
