The Prefecture of Azuay Province needs your help to prepare donated clothing for shipments to the coastal earthquake zone. In El Centro, volunteers can report to the Casa de la Provincia at the corner of Simon Bolivar and Tomas Ordoñez, on the west side of Parque San Blas, Saturday and Sunday, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Volunteers are also needed at the Mikhuna food bank in Turi, during the same hours.

Maria Cecilia Alvarado, Viceprefecta of Azuay, said that clothing kits will be assembled by age, sex, and clothing type before they are sent to the coast. “The generosity of the citizens of Azuay has been overwhelming and we thank everyone who has given,” she said. “Now, we ask your help one more to time to help us organize the clothing so it is immediately useful for those who will receive it.”

She adds that all volunteers are welcome for as long as they can work.

Alvarado asks that volunteers bring plastic garbage bags, packing tape, paper and markers with them.
