“Mote Radio” – There will be a ceremony to present “Mote Radio,” a journalism project to support production and diffusion of stories through podcasts. It will be Friday a las 19:00 in the “César Dávila Andrade” auditorium at the U. of Cuenca.
Rotofest – The final selection of the four rock bands for Rotofest were Thursday y viernes a las 19:00 in in the Casa de las Posadas, Centro Cultural Municipal. 4 bands will perform each day and the winning 4 will perform at the Rotofest on 1/3.p

Pink Floyd Tribute – the “Pink Floyd Experience” will be el sábado a las 19:00 in the Teatro Carlos Cueva Tamariz at the U. of Cuenca. There will also be a show of collectors items, CDs and memorabilia. Cost: $20 & $25.
Teatro – “El más fuerte,” a free adaptation of the play The Stronger by Strindberg, will be el 25/1 a las 20:30 in the “Búnker” Centro Cultural in Challuabamba.
Otras cosas –
Titular – Poliducto, en emergencia (Pipeline, in emergency) The government declared an emergency on the Poliducto Pascuales-Cuenca, the pipeline that transports petroleum derivatives from Guayas Province to the Terminal de Challuabamba. A technical evaluation showed critical risks due to the slopes, soil instability and structures. The project which was budgeted for $250 million was built by Odebrecht for $623 million. <Time to start repatriating some of that bribe money sitting in tax havens.>
At the Challuabamba Terminal, cracks are forming next to 2 tanks holding 6,238 cubic meters of liquefied petroleum gas each. On 4/12/2018, a slope collapsed only a few feet from 7 tanks holding extra, super and diesel gasoline. Only 8 of the 15 internal pumps are operating correctly, and premature wear has been found in the security seals. Studies are being done to determine the remediation plan and will be finished in abril. If the terminal can be repaired it will cost around $48 million. If it needs complete reconstruction the cost would be $201 million. <From the pictures accompanying the article, Chernobyl looks better built.>
Digital parking – Current users of SERT can buy parking with “Apparquear,” a free mobile app which is in its testing phase and should be operating next month. The approximately 2,500 paid parking spaces in the city have been numbered. To use the app, enter the license plate, the number of the parking space, select up to 2 hours, then click to pay with any bank credit or debit card. You can recharge the card with amounts from $1-$20, and you can transfer money to anyone else with the app. If you exceed the time, traffic control can enter the infraction directly into the system which saves time. You can also continue to buy parking cards. The app has a map showing vacant parking spots <How will it know if a spot is occupied by a car using a parking card or parked illegally?>, will let you know when your time has expired, and will let you buy more time if you want.
Variance – The planned sewage treatment plant in Guangarcucho received a variance to build within the riverbank protection zone which is 60 m. The plant will come to 50m. of the river. The goal is to select a contractor in late febrero or early marzo.
Road closures – There will be closures of the vía Cuenca-Azogues-Biblián for technical studies at 3 interchanges. From sábado 12 to miércoles 16 there will be tests and closures in the streets around the IESS redondel from 20:00-1:00 am of the following day with complete closure of the redondel on domingo 13. The closures around the 12 de Octubre redondel will be from jueves, 17 to domingo 20 from 21:00 to 2:00. On domingo, the redondel will be closed entirely. Closures around el Gapal will be from viernes 25 to domingo 27 from 20:00-1:00 with the redondel closed completely on domingo. <Don’t expect to get anywhere on the Autopista conveniently for the next 3 domingos.>
