Every Friday — idiomART is hosting an Art Salon, exploring the ways art, from the precolonial to contemporary eras, has impacted the culture of Cuenca as it’s experienced today.
These salons are held on Friday mornings of each week from 10:30 AM to noon (doors open at 10) at idiomART. Each Friday session costs $10. Light fare, coffee or tea will be served. They will be followed by an optional, after-lunch field trip to a site of cultural interest in the city from 1:30 to 3 PM.
Art historian and curator Berenice Cárdenas will be your guide each Friday. With an MA from the University of Chile, Berenice has studied, as well, at the University of Maryland and worked at the Museum of Fine Art in Santiago and at MOCA (The Museum of Contemporary Art of North Miami).
This week’s topic is: The French architectural styles in Cuenca. Exterior facades and interior decoration. Curious details of some houses and how the French decorative elements (Rococó, Art Noveau, and others, have been adopted and reinterpreted by the local elite.
No reservation required, just come and enjoy.
