ABOUT THE FILM
“The Sea Inside,” is a powerful narrative by Alejandro Amenábar, one of Spain’s best directors. He tells the true story of Ramón Sampedro, a Spanish quadriplegic whose fight for the right to die galvanized his country in the 1990’s. Filmed mostly in a Madrid studio that recreated Sampedro’s Galician farmhouse home, the movie envelops the viewer in the frustrations of a paralyzed man’s circumscribed world. Sampedro’s life is portrayed with grace and fury by Academy Award Winner and Hollywood’s new sweetheart Javier Bardem, arguably Spain’s best actor. With an incredible soundtrack which even includes “”Nessun Dorma” (from “Turandot”), Amenábar rightly won Best Foreign Language Film by the Academy and Golden Globe Awards.
