Our next Cuenca Lions Club lunch meeting will be on Monday, December 10th. At this meeting, our guest speaker will be Bob Higgins. He leads Sustainable Cuenca/The Cuenca Soup Kitchen. Their mission is to identify and work with the challenges of poverty in Cuenca serving both refugees and poor Ecuadorians by providing hot meals and distributing essential items. The meals include a bowl of soup, an entree, a dinner roll, rice, juice and a piece of fruit. The children also get cookies and milk and volunteers make baby food for the infants. They also run a dispensary of warm clothes, bedding, kitchen items, diapers, etc.
At our last meeting, our guest speaker was Susan McBride, Director of Fundraising and Development at Casa Maria Amor/Mujeres con Exito. It is an Ecuadorian foundation that offers housing, counseling and job training to abused women and their children. They do fantastic work with an often overlooked segment of society.
Generally, our meetings are held every two weeks, but this will be the last meeting of the year. If you are new to the Lions and are the type of person that wants to help others, please come and see what we’re all about.
We hope to see you at this, our last meeting of 2018. The year 2019 holds great things for the Lions and our members!
