Teatro – “El estupendo matrimonio de Zabalita” (The great marriage of Zabalita) will be performed in the Sala “Alfonso Carrasco Vintimilla” in the CCE on 17, 18, & 19/1.
On-line theater tutorials – Carlos Gallegos will be holding on-line training ffrom 21/1 to 29/3. The 3 main themes will be dramaturgy <I assume you theater folks will know what that means.>, character, and direction.
Performance – Inés Crespo sung classic rock Friday night at the Centro Cultural República Sur (Pres. Córdova 5-55 y Hermano Miguel).

Titular – América aisla a Nicolás Maduro (America isolates Nicolás Maduro) – Almost 20 countries in the Americas and the European Union do not recognize the legitimacy of Maduro’s re-election. The Organization of American States approved a resolution to not recognize legitimacy of Maduro’s 2nd term, and called for Venezuela to quickly hold a new election with international observation. <And where were the international observers in North Carolina?> José Valencia, Ecuador’s Secretary of State, said that Ecuador is maintaining diplomatic relations with Venezuela even though it did not send a representative to the swearing in ceremony in protest of Venezuela’s human rights violations. He said that getting out of the situation in Venezuela should be done exclusively by Venezuelans, and didn’t think that there would be a need for international action.
Heavy rains on Friday flooded streets in Guayaquil.
Coastal rains – More than 1,000 people have been affected by the rains, especially in Manabí, Esmeraldas, Los Ríos, and Guayas with problems reported in Morona Santiago and Napo in the Oriente. There has been flooding, landslides, and rivers overflowing including in the agricultural area of Naranjal in Guayas.
Fire station – The Cuenca Fire Department will build a new fire station in the Cajas in the Ilioncocha sector next to the lake of the same name to cover Naranjal and Molleturo. The station will have a special waste water treatment system that does not cause pollution. <Good to know the toilets won’t flush directly into the lake.>
ETAPA – ETAPA has introduced MI ETAPA MOVIL, a new app available in the App Store and Google Play. Clients can conduct business on their phones without having to go into the offices.
Coopera payout – The 9th phase of payments will start el lunes, 14/1. To collect, bring notarized color copies of your savings book or CD and of your cedula or passport. Each member can receive up to $1,485.68. The 428 members in this phase have already received partial payments. Payments in this phase are from sales of property. So far, 99.5% of depositors have received 100% of their money. <You old timers will remember this story and why I’m including it. Some of you may still be owed money.>
Slaughterhouse – <Vegetarians, if the subject makes you queasy, stop reading.> The slaughterhouse has started using new machinery to eviscerate, cut off horns, and skin the animals. The machinery will improve the final product, generate less environmental impact, and protect employees’ health. The slaughterhouse processes 350 head of beef on lunes y jueves, and 280 on other days. 450 pigs are slaughtered every lunes, martes y jueves, and 180 on other days. <I wonder if they supply only Cuenca?>
Home delivery – You can get your car registration delivered to your home. Go to www.emov.gob.ec to fill out a form. Your matricula will be delivered by a private contractor within 48 hours. It will cost you $3.50 for delivery to the urban zone, San Joaquín, Sayausí, Baños, Ricaurte, Turi and Chlluabama; and $5.50 for the rest of the canton. You pay the delivery person. <I’m assuming you still have to go to through vehicle inspection and pay all the fees.>

XII Circuito de Montaña “Cabogana 10k” (XII Mountain Circuit “Cabogana 10k”) – This run will be este domingo, 13/1 a las 10:00. Register at the law offices of Pablo Zenteno (Honorato Vászuez 7-96 y Luis Cordero). The race is all mountain on 3d order roads <seasonal and not even graded?>, with chaquiñes, and includes crossing 3 rivers <do the 3d order roads include bridges – logs, planks?>
Gran Fondo Cikla – 110k – This bicycle race will be el domingo, 13/1 a las 7:00 leaving and returning to Cikla (Remigio Tamariz 2-52 y Federico Proaño in the edificio Río Blanco. The route will go through Gualaceo and Azogues on a mostly flat route. Register at Ciklo and donate a bicycle part in good condition for the Escuela de Ciclismo Mujeres en Bici. Cost: $5.00.
