Otras cosas –
Titular – Unos hoteles cierran; otros son alquilados (Some hotels close; others are rented) – Hotels are facing low occupancy rates and some have closed while others have rented to other operators. Some have lowered prices. The Hostal Monasterio de Colección closed last week. The owner said when he opened 6 years ago the room rate was $60, and when he closed it was $36 including breakfast and taxes. <I see an opportunity for a rich gringo to buy a small hotel and turn it back into a house.>
Hat Friday – La Asociación de Jóvenes Empresarios de Cuenca (The Association of Young Entrepreneurs of Cuenca) – started a campaign on social media for “Hat Friday” for people to wear their “Panama” hats every Friday. <Just think about that, you won’t look like a tourist if you wear your hat on Friday. Because the other people who wear “Panama” hats a lot are the indigenous, and I have yuge doubts that a gringo could be mistaken for an indigenous person.> As part of the campaign, the Association wants to replace Panama Hat with Ecuadorian Hat since sombreros de papa toquilla are often used in Europe where it’s not known that they are made here in Ecuador.
Vote results – CNE will start releasing partial vote results starting at 20:00 on election day, March 24. Final results won’t be until votes have been verified and that can take a few days. If this year is the same as previous years, Azuay, Cañar and Loja will be the first provinces to give their results to the national council. There will not be an “exit poll” (written in English), but there are organizations that have signed up to conduct “encuestas a boca de urna” (exit polls <I’m confused.> which comes with a condition. The polling organizations have to present their findings to CNE first.
Vote simulation – There will be a second election simulation el próximo domingo. The first was successful.
And that’s all for today so Hasta ? –
