Treatro – “El más fuerte,” an adaptation of Strindberg’s The Strongest, will be staged el viernes a las 20:00 in the “Bunker Espacio Cultural” (Challuabamba). Cost: $5.00.
Día de amistad concert – 80 students of the Colegio Alemán Stiehle and the Escuela Francesa Joseph de Jussieu performed Tuesday in the Teatro Carlos Cueva Tamariz for French-German Friendship Day.
Plus Ultra Airlines will begin Ecuador to Spain service.
Exposición – Gustavo Landivar will open a photo show Wednesday a las 19:00 in the Museo de las Conceptas. His photos will be mounted on all the doors in the convent. <Be careful you don’t walk into them – the photos look like extentions of the hallway.> The mostly black and white photos are life sized and show the nuns in their daily activities, with the earliest fotos taken over 30 years ago.
Directorio and Cuenta Satélite – The cultural directory of Cuenca has over 1,000 listings and there is an electronic version. The Cuenta Satélite is on line. The two projects were launched hoy a las 18:30 in the Corte de Justicia de Azuay.
Película – The 16mm. film “Grabador Fantasma” by Adrián Balseca is part of the XIV Bienal. It will be shown mañana a las 19:00 in the Casa Bienal with the artist attending. The film is part of a multimedia installation in the Antigua Planta Eléctrica de Yanuncay. The film was a collaboration between Kar Colar and the Achuar Nation in Ecuador to collect sounds produces by organisms living along the banks of the río Bobonaza in Pastaza Province.
Otras cosas –
Titular – Alto al femicidio (Stop femicide) – Yesterday, feminist collectives protested in various cities in the country to denounce the “sistema patriarcal” (patriarchal system) which has permitted the increase in macho violence in the country. The demonstration in Cuenca was in the area around the Glorietta.
New Quito-Madrid flight – Spanish airline Plus Ultra will fly 3 times a week on martes, jueves y sábados to Quito and Guayaquil. The route is currently flown by Iberia. The Ecuadorian ambassador to Spain noted that this will strengthen tourism from Spain to Ecuador and hopes that there will be promotions so Ecuadorians can visit family members in Spain.
Mayoral candidates – There are 13 candidates for mayor of Cuenca in the 24/3 election. They are listed along with their parties or movements and photos in the article headlined “Los 13 nombres para la Alcaldía.” Each candidate can spend up to $93,460.40 of their own funds and party funds which can’t be used to pay for media ads or things like making posters and placards.
Delays – Key city projects have been marked by delays. Among those are the plaza de San Francisco which was to have been completed in febrero, 2017, but will now be delivered on 29/1. The mercado 12 de Abril which started in julio de 2017 with a construction term of 12 months is supposed to be ready in the beginning of marzo.
