The Jazz Society of Ecuador is now hostinga weekly solo show by singer-guitarist Luis Ullauri, every Tuesday night at the Jazz Society Café.

Luis Ullauri
Ullauri, who performs Latin American ballads in the Nueva Trova tradition, has a rapidly growing and ardent fandom in Cuenca. His fire, finesse, nuance and verve as a balladeer, the power, warmth and resonance of his vocal timbre, his classical guitar technique and brilliant baroque-inspired guitar arrangements, make him an interpreter like no other of the great romantic ballads of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries from Mexico, Cuba, Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Peru, Ecuador and Spain.
Part of the Jazz Society’s special charm is its tradition of presenting an eclectic mix of jazz with other musical genres performed by first-rate artists in an intimate and romantic venue. Incomparable jazz pianist Jim Gala, the James Gala Trio, and a changing international cast of outstanding guest artists, play every Wednesday through Saturday night, with Ulluari performing Latin American ballads between the sets of jazz.
The addition of Ullauri’sTuesday night solo show to the Jazz Society Café’s Wednesday-Saturday roster is another big gift by the Society to Cuenca’s flourishing music scene.
