A photographic exhibit by Cuenca photographer and CuencaHighLife columnist Brian Buckner opens Thursday night at 7 p.m. at the Museo de la Ciudad in the historic district.
The exhibit is an outgrowth of a mentoring project for aspiring photographers that Buckner has coordinated in since October 2017.
“After seeing examples of my photography, a senior staff member of the Cuenca Arts and Culture Council asked if I would be willing to mentor aspiring photographers,” he says. “I love working with the local artists, running workshops and judging their photos,” Buckner says. “It was during this experience that the idea for a solo exhibit of my own developed.”
The exhibit, titled Decisive Moment, features photographs Buckner has taken in the Andes Mountains around Cuenca. Many of the images, presented in large format, present landscapes seldom seen by most Cuencanos. “They were taken in remote, often very high altitude areas where few people go,” said Buckner, who is an avid back-country hiker.
Following the Thursday opening, the exhibit continues through July 31. The Museo de la Ciudad is located on the corner of Calles Benigno Malo and Gran Colombia. Hours are 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
