Bienal – The organizers suggest splitting the visits to the Bienal venues into 3 parts. The first would be El Centro from Plaza San Sebastián to San Blas. The second would be the old electric plant on the Río Yanuncay. The third would be the Río Tomebamba.
Parallel and special exhibitions – In addition to the Bienal, there are 6 other exhibits.

Titular – Artistas ganadores de la Bienal, premiados (Winning artists of the Biennial, awarded) – Erick Beltrán, from Mexico, won for his work, “Tótem Taboo” in the museo Pumapungo.
Venezuelans – The Vice Minister of Foreign Relations said that Ecuador will need about $550 milllion to finance the “inserción” (insertion) of Venezuelan immigrants into the country in the short and medium term. Ecuador will hold a meeting for donors el 30/11. Countries in the EU, the US, Japan, Korea, Qatar and Canada have been invited. He noted that Colombia had proposed that international financial institutions such as the World Bank, Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo, and Corporación Andinade Fomento create a regional fund. The expenses include health, education, housing and getting Venezuelans into the labor market. According to estimates by OIM and Acnur, almost 2.5 Venezuelans have left their country in the last 4 years with the number reaching 4 million by the end of this year. Ecuador has received 250,000 with another 750,000 who are passing through on their way to Perú or Chile. <Holey moley, that’s 5.88% of the total population of Ecuador! That percentage of immigrants in the US would would equate to about the total population of Ecuador. And the US is sending out 15,000 armed troops to meet 5,000 refugees.>
Manta airport – The groundbreaking for the reconstruction of the Manta airport was held yesterday. The “Eloy Alfaro” International Airport will receive $21 million for the project which will last 18 months. <18 months? It’s an airport project – it’s in Ecuador – 25 months.>
San Francisco Plaza – The 132 merchants who currently work on Padre Aguirre next to the Plaza San Francisco, will be relocated to PRAC starting lunes, 26/11. They will be there temporarily for a maximum of 20 days <snort> and then return to SF Plaza permanently.
Road closures – From hoy (sábado) to el martes próximo, there will be partial closure of a De Las Américas and av. Turuhuayco to build the pedestrian overpass. One lane of La Ocarina will also b closed. From 1-4/12, the middle land of Las Americas will be closed, and from 8-11/12, the left lane will be closed as well as the Barrial Blanco Sur on ramp or off ramp. <Just drive carefully on Las Americas, OK?>
