The Cuenca traffic control office is warning motorists that traffic in El Centro will face detours most of Saturday.
Four parades are scheduled tomorrow, all beginning at the San Blas Plaza and proceeding up Calle Simón Bolívar. A parade celebrating education in Cuenca is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m., an anti-gay marriage (“Don’t mess with the family”) procession begins at 10:15 a.m. followed at 4 p.m. by a pro-gay marriage parade sponsored by Cuenca LGBTI-2019 Pride. The parades conclude at 8 p.m. with a “walk of the faithful” for Our Lady of Perpetual Help, which will conclude at Iglesia San Alfonso.
By recommendation of police, the times of the anti- and pro-gay marriages were rescheduled so they do not run back-to-back. Originally, the LGBTI event was scheduled to follow “Don’t mess with family” by two hours. “We thought there was the possibility of conflict between the parade participants and supporters and decided they should be scheduled several hours apart,” a police spokesman said.
