Misa – There will be a mass of thanksgiving <nothing to do with turkey and cranberry sauce> el sábado a las 12:00 in the church of the Monasterio de la Inmaculada Concepción in honor of the Virgin Mary.

Cultura Afro – The afro-Ecuadorian community has organized “Todos somos afrodescendientes,” (We are all afro-descendants) <Which would be considered fake news by the skinheads among you.>, an event for Friday. The day starts at 7:00 with a program on radio Católica. A las 9:00, there will be an intercultural memorial ceremony in the patio of the Seminrio San Luis (Benigno Malo y Simñon Bolívar. A las 10:00 there will be a walk to the Iglesia Santo Domingo, accompanied by the Barojo Theater group. At 11:00 there will be a conference with historian Diego Arteaga whose research is the afro population. There will be visits to libraries at 12:00.

Festival of Lights in Santo Domingo Plaza

Mercado Navideño 2018 – The 2018 Christmas Market at the Alianza Francesa will be el sábado desde a las 10:00 hasta las 16:00. (Tadeo Torres 1-92 y Solano).

Concierto – The OSC will perform manána a las 20:00 in the Teatro Pumapungo in a tribute to the Proyecto Inclusivo “Antifaz.” The concert will close the Festival Inclusivo de Artes.

Noche de música – Music of several singers was interpreted Thursday by Pablo Marín in the Teatro Carlos Crespi at he UPS. This is part of the University’s Viernes Cultural offerings.

Festival of Lights – More than 9,000 lanterns will be lit Friday in Santo Domingo Plaza on Calle Gran Colombia in the annual Festival of Lights tribute to the virgin Morenica del Rosario. There will be a “blessing of the fire” at  6:45 p.m. outside the Santo Domingo church with the lighting of the candles to begin afterward. In the addition to the lanterns in Santo Domingo Plaza, others will be lit in the courtyards of the Museo de la Ciudad and the San Luis Seminary. Organizers expect about 10,000 to attend the event.

Novenas – The novenas started yesterday and will continue until viernes, 14/12. All novenas are a las 18:00. The novena for Friday will be in the CCE. For next week, from lunes a viernes, the novenas will be at the Museo de las Conceptas, Museo de las Culturas Aborígenes (Calle Larga 5.24), Museo Pumapungo, Instituto del Patrimonio Cultural (INPC) and CIDAP.

Nabón – Nabón is celebrating its 13th year as a Patrimonio Cultural de la Nación este sábado starting with a book launch at 10:00, a nativity contest at 13:30, a dance contest at 15:30, a short film at 18:00 and globos and a show at 19:30. Sábado, 15/12:

Gullanzhapa – The community in the Tarqui Parish will celebrate its Santísima Virgen de la Inmaculada this weekend. A Cholita Gullanzhapa will be elected este viernes a las 21:00 with a dance to follow. Activities for el sábado will start at 9:00 with a parade, an community awards ceremony, and a midday mass followed by a pampa mesa.

The Asamblea has 30 days to elect a new VP, and if not, the first person on the list will assume the vicepresidency <If I’m reading this right – not something you can count on.>. On Thursday afternoon, Moreno presented the names of Otto Sonnenholzner, Nancy Vasco de Maldonado and Agustín Albán to assembly.

School cafeterias – The Ministry of Education’s prohibition of the use of single use plastic and styrofoam plates, cups, etc. in school cafeterias is causing schools to figure out how to implement this regulation.
