Hola, Todos –
Actividades –

De la pagina cultural –

Rock – Nemesek, a Trash metal band, and Lignum Crusis will play Saturday a las 20:00 in the teatro Carlos Cueva Tamaríz. <If you already have ear damage, this show will probably finish them off.>

Del cuerpo del periodico –

Horseback ride – The Cabalgata Histórica por la Ruta de los Héroes de Tarqui is being held hoy y mañana. This ride left the megaparque Tarqui-Guzho this morning and ended today’s ride at the Quinta Victoria where a re-enactment of the the Battle of Tarqui was held. There will be a military ceremony mañana a las 10:00 and the ride will go from the Portete de Tarqui church and end at the Casa de los Tratados de Girón (Treaty House). 330 people have registered, including a number of expats.

Otras cosas –

Ruta de los Héroes de Tarqui horse tour.

Titular – Grietas y derrumbes en la Cuenca-Pasaje (Cracks and landslides in the Basin-Passage <And that Basin-Passage translation is why you do not want to blindly rely on translation programs.>) – A large slide at km. 86 in the Pacchamamac sector of the vía Cuenca-Girón-Pasaje has closed the road down to one lane. There are fissures on the slope above with frequent falling rock. Drivers and passengers are nervous, keeping their eyes up. There is basic equipment on site – a “cargadora y volquete” (a loader and dumptruck – your words for the day as well as a patrol car.)

There is a bigger problem at km. 85+900. MTOP is working with the reconstruction contractor to get more equipment. There is also fallen and broken rock at the intersection with the vía Minas-Tablón-Pucará.

The vía Cuenca-Molleturo-El Empalme at km. 71 was also affected earlier this week. MTOP blew up a large rock that had fallen on the road. A landslide in the El Descanso de Sucre on the vía Estación de Cumbe-Portete closed off one lane 8 days ago, and has not been cleared yet. A bus narrowly escaped getting caught in the slide.

Women’s life spans – The average lifespan of a woman in Azuay for 2020 will increase from 81.1 in 2015 to 81.9 in 2020. Factors for the increasing life span included healthy lifestyles, physical activity and adequate food. <Interesting, the use of the word adequate and not wholesome or nutritious.> A specialist with the Ministerio de Salud Pública (MSP) mentioned the access to whole grains and cereals and legumes as well as fruit which is varied and year round in Azuay. The Centro de Atención al Adulto Mayor (CAAM) at IESS has activities such as exercise classes. Seniors can also go to any of the MSP health centers to assess healthy life style practices. They can help you to do physical activities, yoga, learn about nutrition, and more.

Voto 2019 –
Mayoral candidates – Tarquino Orellana is the candidate for the Concentración movement (Lista 51). It is a centrist movement formerly called Concentración Nacional Democrática, and its president is César Montúfar. One of his main challenges is to have a functional Tranvía integrated into the transport system, and insure there will be enough passengers to keep the system sustainable. He would:

Resolve 14 “nudos de trafico” (traffic knots – your phrase for the day) such as the entry into Cuenca from Milchichig which would get a new bridge to bring more riders to the Tranvía.

Have only one fare across the public transportation system so the Tranvía system doesn’t become a system for the elite. <Who will probably drive anyway unless all parking is eliminated in the city.>

Use a system of advertising in el Centro for the Tranvía to make money, and convert one of trains to a tourist attraction such as a rolling restaurant.

Say no to mining in water recharge zones due to the risk of contamination and because the industry is not sustainable.

Relocate the municipal slaugherhouse which should be in the north since that’s where the roads bringing the livestock are.

Maintain air and land connectivity. He said there are technical solutions that can and should be applied immediately, and political solutions to seek lowering the cost of fares and recovering routes.

Would not relocated the zona de tolerencia (red light zone).

Key issues for Cuenca –
Mejorar la seguridad – He would enforce the role of articulation (?) of security institutions of the CSC and considers that construction of the jail is a security problem.

Terminal terrestre – He proposes turning the current terminal into a big commercial center, and use income from that to build a new terminal whose location has not been established.

Mercado mayorista – He thinks it is necessary to build a new wholesale market and make the Feria Libre a market that will be secure, guarantee healthiness, and fair prices to attract the populace.

Feria de ganado – He would build a regional livestock market between the cantons of Cuenca, Paute, Gualaceo and Azugues, but located in Cuenca. It would be run by a joint venture.

Vivienda social – He would revise the Plan de Ordenamiento Urbano to make it easier to build and develop, but housing should emerge from the private sector with the city as a partner.

Suelo industrial – He would expand the existing industrial park and determine new spaces to avoid illegal land use.

Used car sales – Used car sales have fallen drastically. The president of the used auto fair “12 de Abril” in Nulti attributes the drop to buyers not having the money <cash?> and increases in imports, mostly from China. Many buyers are attracted to Chinese cars <they are cheap> and the ease of auto financing. Annual auto imports from 2015 to 2018 went from 35,916 to 31,761 to 70,203 to 101,416. In enero of this year, 8,282 vehicles were imported and another 2.042 assembled in Ecuador.

2 earthquakes – There was a magnitude 4.5 quake yesterday morning in the gulf of Guayaquil, 75.7 kilometers west of Huaquillas at 10 km deep. There were no victims or damage reported. The second quake was 12 km. SE of Tulcán, the capitol of Carchi, with a magnitude of 4.6.

And that´s all for today so la próxima semana –
