Venezuela’s self-proclaimed president Juan Guaidó arrived in Ecuador early Saturday afternoon and met later with President Lenin Moreno.
Guaidó, who is on a multi-country tour, flew into Guayaquil and traveled by car to Salinas for his scheduled meeting with Moreno. “God bless my Venezuelan countrymen and countrywomen in Ecuador,” he said on his arrival. “My dearest hope is to soon invite them back to a free country.”
Guaido said he is touring South America to enlist support for his cause to replace Nicolas Maduro as president. “I am demanding a cessation of the usurpation of the rights of the Venezuelan people by the Maduro regime and demanding a free election.”
According to his itinerary, Guaido met with Moreno at the General Ulpiano Páez airport in Salinas before traveling on the Chile. He says he will return to Venezuela next week although Maduro says he may be arrested when he returns.
