Voluntarios extranjeros – Foreign volunteers have been teaching English to about 70 students from 6-14 in the San Joaquin Municipal Library since 5 years ago. The free classes are from M-F from 15-16:15. Jhon T., Edie, and Ric S. were mentioned in the article with a photo of Jhon.

“Rostros del Barrio” – This program was organized by the Casa Museo Remigio Crespo Toral to show the diversity and multi-culturality of the calle Larga neighborhood during the daytime. There will be a “Conversando con nuestros vecinos” (Talking to our neighbors) el próximo jueves, 28/2 a las 11:00 in the Casa Museo Remigio Crespo Toral featuring Robert Sherman who has installed an art gallery. <I should change the name of the page to “the gringo page.”>

Festival del Taita Carnaval

Furniture – Wooden furniture made by the students of the Centro Artístico Don Bosco in Saraguro, Loja is being displayed at EDEC.

Exposición – A photo exhibit on European immigration to Ecuador from 1730-1770 will open el viernes, 1/3 a las 10:00 in the Museo y Parque Arqueológico Pumapungo. The traveling exhibit is stopping in Cuenca courtesy of the German Honorary Consul.

Titular – Avivan fiesta por Carnaval (Jazzed for Carnaval fiesta) – People from 26 communities and 17 barrios in Tarqui celebrated yesterday during the Festival del Taita Carnaval 2019. Most of the celebrants came in”traje típico,” their traditional clothes.

Cochlear implants – Children deaf since birth are receiving cochlear implants. Kids can get their hearing checked at any Public Health Center and get referred to the Vicente Corral Moscoso regional hospital where the implants are placed. There are 8 children on the 2019 waiting list in Azuay, and 40 nationwide. Patients are not charged for this $30,000 surgery.

Twitter assaults – At least 20 women in the public eye, including candidates for the Consejo de Participación Ciudadana have been victims of victims of demonstrations of violence through memes, comments and words. Between 16/1 and 17/2, Participación Ciudadana monitered 23 women on social networks who are candidates or public officials. 20 of them were victims of on-line aggression.
