The U.S. State Deparrment dedicated its new consulate in Guayaquil on Friday. U.S. Ambassador to Ecuador Adam Namm presided over the ceremony.

The new consulate is a multi-building complex situated on an 11.25-acre site in the San Eduardo neighborhood of Guayaquil.

According to Namm, the new $66.5 million complex provides more convenience and safety for both clients and personnel. Space was cramped in old consulate in downtown Guayaquil, Namm said, and it was difficult for clients to access.

According to Namm, the new consulate incorporates numerous sustainable features to conserve resources and reduce operating costs, including an energy recovery unit that reduces the need for heating and cooling, water-conserving plumbing fixtures, and the use of regional and recycled materials.
