Like other local residents, Cuenca expats are all-too familiar with the disruptions caused by construction of the Cuenca’s tram system. In many areas of town, vehicular and pedestrian traffic have been chaotic since work began in early 2013.

When the system is complete in October 2016, it will cover a 21-kilometer route, linking the industrial park in the northeast to the intersection of Av. Las Americas and the Azogues autopista in the southwest. Designed and built by the French company Alstom, the tram will be similar to systems in many European cities. it will be the first in Ecuador and only the second in Latin America.

The video provides a brief overview of the Travía route. For more about the tranvía, search “tram” or “tranvía” and you will find dozens of posts.
