Officials meet to plan the resumption of Tame flights between Cuenca and Guayaquil

Ecuador’s Ministry of Transport and Public Works (MTOP) began talks with Cuenca business and city government officials on Monday to plan the resumption of Tame Airlines flights between Cuenca and Guayaquil. Tame is owned by the Ecuadorian government.

Last week, MTOP minister and former Cuenca mayor Paúl Granda announced that flights would resume in late July after the airline said, days earlier, it was ending the service for at least a year.

MTOP Deputy Minister Boris Palacios met with Cuenca Deputy Mayor Ruth Caldas, the director of Mariscal La Mar Airport, and representatives of the Cuenca Chamber of Commerce, to discuss the costs and other details of flight resumption. According to Caldas, flights should begin as soon as possible since July through September is the peak period for Cuenca tourism.

In the agreement announced last week by Granda, the Cuenca municipal government and local businesses will partner with Tame to ensure that the flights are financially sustainable.
