Cool weather is temporary, weatherman says

Blame Monday’s cool temperatures in Cuenca on Peru and Bolivia.

According to the National Meteorology Institute (INHAMI), a south-to-north flow of winter air from Peru and Bolivia is responsible for below normal temperatures in Ecuador’s central valley.

The high temperature in Cuenca Monday was four degrees cooler than average, with an official reading of only 13 degrees Celsius (57 Fahrenheit). In higher-altitude western areas of the city the high temperature only reached 10 degrees.

INHAMI says winds and dense clouds created by the collision of warm and cold air masses made conditions seem even colder.

Meteorologists say the weather pattern is temporary and there should be slow warm-up over the rest of the week.
