Ecuador signs Paris Accord on Climate Change
Ecuador President Lenin Moreno has signed the Paris Accord on Climate Change.
Ecuador’s formal endorsement of the international climate agreement officially joins the country with 140 other signatories seeking to reduce the emission of greenhouse gas and limit the effects of global warming.
Moreno made the announcement that he had signed the agreement Monday during a visit the rain forest to inaugurate a health center in the city of Coca.
Ecuador’s signing of the Paris accord comes ahead of the Thursday and Friday Summit of the Parliament Network on Climate Change (RPCC) and Renewable Energies, when lawmakers from more than 20 countries in the Americas and the Caribbean meet in Panama. The event was organized by the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament (Parlatino), headquartered in Panama city, and the ParlAmericas, to discuss measures to fulfill the commitments agreed under the Paris Accord.
Experts from international organizations are due to attend, including the Global Environment Facility, the United Nations Environment Program, the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean and the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
