In individual health insurance plans, each policyholder and their dependents have their policy and coverage tailored to their specific needs. Premiums and coverage are determined based on individual factors such as age and deductibles. Consequently, premiums can vary widely.

On the other hand, collective or group insurance plans are often provided by employers and organizations. These insurance plans cover a group of individuals under a single policy. Premiums and coverage are based on the overall risk profile of the group, leading to lower costs per individual. The risk-sharing nature of these plans can result in more stable premiums for all members, with healthier individuals subsidizing costs for those with higher medical needs.

For instance, while creating a collective insurance plan for a community of people aged 50 to 85, this demographic is more likely to require healthcare services due to age-related conditions and chronic illnesses. It could cause a higher healthcare utilization rate among its members, leading to greater claim volume and associated costs. This adverse selection could also lead to a disproportionate number of high-cost claims, impacting all members with potentially increased premiums.

Let’s set a premium of $65 per person which aims to maintain affordability, it may not accurately reflect the true cost of coverage, especially for older individual rates. Also, there’s a risk of losing benefits if the collective plan needs to migrate to another insurance company. This is particularly relevant due to two-year waiting period for coverage of pre-existing condition. If the plan switches companies, members may lose the benefits accrued during this waiting period, potentially leaving them exposed to significant healthcare costs.

What does Hogar de Esperanza do with your donations of clothing and household items? First and foremost, we give them away to those who are most in need of them. Great care is taken to make sure that they get exactly what they need. Any extra items are sold in Esperanza Thrift Shop, where all of the proceeds go back into directly supporting the foundation’s work of helping those in need.

Are you moving soon – perhaps across town or maybe even back home – and you have items that you can’t take with you? Do you wish you had someone to come carry away those items remaining after your moving sale, that you don’t know what to do with? Were you just spring-cleaning last week, and came across clothes in your closets that you no longer wanted? If you would like to do some incredible things with those items you no longer need or want, let us turn them into something valuable to help those in need.

We accept anything that you wish to donate, and put it to immediate use. You can come by the thrift shop, which is located at 8-28 Juan Montalvo y Mariscal Sucre, to drop off items Monday through Friday from 9 AM – 5:30 PM. We also do pick-ups of donations, so feel free to contact us to arrange a time. Thank you so much for your support of Hogar de Esperanza – we could not do any of this without you.

THE REGULATION OF THE HUMAN MOBILITY LAW, which we have waited so long for, is only expected to be published in the Official Registry so that it becomes effective.

The last paragraph of Article 84 of the Regulation establishes that “For purposes of continuity of permanence, the foreign person may not leave the country for more than ninety (90) days during the entire period of validity of the temporary residence visa”

As President of Hearts of Gold, I wanted to be sure that ALL those who helped make our High Tea such a success get the credit they deserve. The funds raised all go to support Hearts’ All Children Deserve to Dream program that focuses on empowering and supporting children and adolescents in vulnerable situations.

First, I want to thank Vanessa Watts, Associate and Melina Lopez, Owner of Kolo Restaurant for donating the use of their restaurant with all their table settings and all their help. Also, to our Hearts’ staff, Executive Director, Maria Jose Orellana, Alex Riofrio, Accounting Director and Cari Serrano, Community Development Director who always do whatever needs to be done.

Our volunteers provided mini sandwiches and canapes, teapot-shaped cookies, cupcakes, brownies, cream puffs, chocolate eclairs with, of course, tea, for a fabulous luncheon, and our bartender also served wine, beer or a champagne cocktail.

We had wonderful, donated raffle prizes (a gorgeous hat, art pieces and a Wedgewood teapot and cups) as well as beautiful flower centerpieces for guests to take home. And then more wonderful volunteers to clean up after waitressing all afternoon.

In addition to Heart’s staff and all the volunteers, Frances Hogg wants to send a special thank you to Tarek Ben Miled who transported her and all her supplies in the middle of the torrential rain storm and to Kris Fischer who provided the lemons for tea and drinks.

And finally, a special thank you to Frances Hogg who is Hearts’ Event Chair and does all the organizing, coordinating and donating of everything from champagne to tea to desserts to signs to a fun table game to anything else needed to make this all work.

From my heart to all of you who truly have Hearts of Gold – Thank you!
