Agreement with tram vendors clears way for signing of project management contract

Cuenca Mayor Marcelo Cabrera announced Tuesday that an agreement has been reached with tranvía subcontractors who suffered financial loses when the project management firm walked off the job last October.

Cuenca’s much-delayed tram.

Under the agreement, the city will pay GME-CITA $8.7 million and says it hopes to recoup the money in settlement negotiations with former project manager Four Rivers Consortium of Cuenca (CCRC). GME-CITA, which was responsible for installing train track, includes Alstom, the French company that won the bid to complete work on the train system.

Cabrera said the agreement has been approved by the attorney general’s office and that the contract with Alstom should be signed in the coming week.
