Baby girl is baptized in the Manta mall where she was born

Family, relatives, friends, firemen and the news media gathered Saturday for the baptism of Ainhoa Milagros Zambrano Yoza. What was unusual about the ceremony is that it was held in the food court of Manta’s Mall del Pacifico, where the baby girl was born on September 7.

“Mall girl” is baptized in Guayaquil.

Father Alberto Benavides performed the baptism in the presence of fireman and godfather Jaime Robalino, who delivered the baby, and the mother, Teresa Yoza. Godmother Stella Bernal, manger of the store in which the delivery took place, also attended the ceremony.

An uncle of Ainhoa, identified as Jose, suggested that the priest substitute Coca Cola for holy water since the labor began next to several fast food stores. Father Benavides declined, although he said he thought that God appreciated the suggestion.

After the ceremony, Teresa said the family has nicknamed Ainhoa the “mall girl.”
