To protect your investment in real estate in Ecuador, you should take into consideration the following:

1. The purchase and sale must be made through a public deed granted in an Ecuadorian notary’s office.
2. Some taxes must be paid by the buyer and other taxes must be paid by the seller.
3. The taxes and fees to be paid by the buyer are:
a. Municipality Taxes as buyer (ALCABALAS)
b. Notary Fees
c. Property Registry Taxes

4. The tax to be paid by the Seller is Capital Gains (PLUSVALIA).
5. You must make sure that the real estate is free of any charge or prohibition, by means of a certificate obtained in the Property Registry Office.
6. It is necessary to check if there are any outstanding debts on the seller name or on the property in the Municipality.

The Instituto Ecuatoriano de Seguridad Social (IESS) has been essential for healthcare in Ecuador, but it is currently facing significant challenges that affect its service quality. Issues include medical malpractice, economic difficulties, a lack of medications, and long waiting times for consultations and tests.

Alarming cases such as incorrect surgeries and misdiagnoses have increased distrust in the IESS. The institute’s financial crisis, worsened by fund misappropriation, has led to shortages of medications and supplies, forcing affiliates to incur additional expenses.

Moreover, language barriers and extensive waiting times for appointments and tests further complicate the situation, putting patients’ health at risk. Long waits in emergencies, ranging from 4 to 8 hours, exacerbate the problem.

Given this situation, a private health insurance becomes a viable and necessary solution for both locals and foreigners. Private insurances offer quick access to doctors and specialists, personalized care, and comprehensive coverage of medications and treatments, ensuring a better quality of life.

Discover how our health insurance plans can provide you with the peace of mind and care you deserve. Visit our website and find the ideal plan for you and your family. Read more here: https://blueboxinsurance.com/the-current-situation-of-iess-in-ecuador/

Can you hear the difference when you pronounce the words “liter” and “leader”?
You know, writing is easier than listening.
Are you able to perfectly understand the cuencano newspaper while reading but absolutely unable to understand when listening?
If so, sharp your eyes and continue reading.
Catching a language is a matter of perception, that is why when you are not able to understand what is said, when you fail in perception your brain will immediately patch the misperceived words by the ones you already know, it’s a brain mechanism to make sense of the world of meanings.
Pauses and connections between words do matter! since this is the cornerstone to understanding spoken language.
If you struggle with listening to natives, learn how to listen to them: context and perception.
Interested in perceiving and speaking rather than reading or writing? This training is for you.
Where? at the comfort of your location in Cuenca Ec or at the comfort of your favorite couch for online learners.

Why? Because you can save some money trying on your own, unfortunately time invested in whatever you are doing like a no head chicken is something you can’t get back.
Again, your time, your call.
All the best,
LaVilmaVega.

What does Hogar de Esperanza do with your donations of clothing and household items? First and foremost, we give them away to those who are most in need of them. Great care is taken to make sure that they get exactly what they need. Any extra items are sold in Esperanza Thrift Shop, where all of the proceeds go back into directly supporting the foundation’s work of helping those in need.

Are you moving soon – perhaps across town or maybe even back home – and you have items that you can’t take with you? Do you wish you had someone to come carry away those items remaining after your moving sale, that you don’t know what to do with? Were you just spring-cleaning last week, and came across clothes in your closets that you no longer wanted? If you would like to do some incredible things with those items you no longer need or want, let us turn them into something valuable to help those in need.

We accept anything that you wish to donate, and put it to immediate use. You can come by the thrift shop, which is located at 8-28 Juan Montalvo y Mariscal Sucre, to drop off items Monday through Friday from 9 AM – 5:30 PM. We also do pick-ups of donations, so feel free to contact us to arrange a time. Thank you so much for your support of Hogar de Esperanza – we could not do any of this without you.

Nothing at all, the world keeps turning.
At the end of the day, you’ve already learned so much with Bilingo, Dabbel or “Spanish with…”
>What happens if you can’t speak properly while buying food in the market? Or in the bank?
Nothing at all, the very littler water in Tomebamba river keeps flowing and the sun keeps shining above our heads.
At the end of the day it seems like the cashier/vendor understands you perfectly or at least with the context and gestures no problem at all.
Besides that, you have been talking like that over the last 3, 5 or 7 years.
In the language arena, you have just two options:
Take a seat and watch the play (enjoy the movie).
Being the main character (enjoy the failure or celebrate the applause).
Don’t wait for the right place, the right moment or the right year, day or week, take action.
What if you don’t take action?
Nothing, nothing at all.
Nothing, nothing at all.
For life issues, I don’t know what to advise, but if you are stuck with your Spanish oral skills and…
If you’re really committed to starting or improving your Spanish, I will be happy to help you in October.
Life is what happens…

Feeling frustrated or disconnected—from yourself, your purpose, or your energy?

Ancestral wisdom tells us that illness—whether physical, emotional, or psychological—stems from a separation from one’s true essence. Reconnecting with this essence can unlock profound healing. In Andean shamanism, limpias (energy cleanses) restore your energy body to its natural state, bringing balance and vitality.

With a shaman’s guidance, deeper healing is possible. Shamans bridge the spiritual and physical worlds, facilitating soul retrieval, repairing disruptions, discharging ancestral karma, and reconnecting you with nature. This is the medicine that precedes ‘medicine.’

Meet Taita Ivan Navarro
An elder shaman from Chile with 40+ years of experience, Taita Ivan has lived in Ecuador for 15 years, earning respect from both native Cañari and international shamanic communities. His offerings help you reconnect with yourself, Spirit, and the natural world.

Services Offered:

Personal Limpias (Energy Cleanses)
-Restore balance and revitalize your energy body, addressing emotional, spiritual, and psychosomatic issues.
Price:
$65 for a home visit in Cuenca
$55 for visits to Taita Ivan in Sigsig
+ $10 for translator services

Home Energy Cleanses
-Clear negative energies or emotional imprints from your living spaces, bringing harmony and protection.
Price:
$50 for a standard home (sliding scale)
+ $10 for translator services

Private 1-Day & Group Ceremonies
-Experience sacred San Pedro medicine and nature-based rituals.
Custom pricing: starting at $120 for a private all-day ceremony.
