The Grace Foundation has been meeting for months to develop our newest project the Cuenca Youth Orchestra. We are now ready to have a logo contest. We are asking that anyone who would like to submit a logo do so by midnight on the 8th of June. We apologize for the short time frame. Please submit as many entries as you would like. The winner will receive $25, as determined by the organizing committee. What does Hogar de Esperanza do with your donations of clothing and household items? First and foremost, we give them away to those who are most in need of them. Great care is taken to make sure that they get exactly what they need. Any extra items are sold in Esperanza Thrift Shop, where all of the proceeds go back into directly supporting the foundation’s work of helping those in need.
Are you moving soon – perhaps across town or maybe even back home – and you have items that you can’t take with you? Do you wish you had someone to come carry away those items remaining after your moving sale, that you don’t know what to do with? Were you just spring-cleaning last week, and came across clothes in your closets that you no longer wanted? Gather at the main entrance of the City Cemetery on Monday, May 27th, from 11:00 to 13:00. In remembrance of our brave men and women who have died for our freedom, we will lay flags at the city cemetery.
This is the first time the Ecuadorian fallen have ever been honored in Cuenca, and we intend to make it an annual event, much like in the United States. In 1941, Ecuador engaged Peru in battle. The loss of life was high. To pay our respects, there are four mausoleums and a handful of graves on which to place flags of both countries.
Join a few expatriates from the United States to place both countries’ flags on Memorial Day. Wear patriotic dress, and admission is free.
