There were free dance classes Friday Santo Domingo and the Flower Market, and there will be an event honoring Osmara de León Sat. at 19:00 in the Teatro Pumapungo. Admission: please bring food or other articles to donate to earthquake relief.
Compensación y Estímulo Tributario (Compensation and Incentive Tax) – The Cuenca municipal council will consider an ordinance to compensate businesses that have seen a decline in sales due to tranvía construction. Supporters of the measure say that hotels on the tram route in El Centro have seen a 60% decline in bookings since work began and that 12 hotels have closed or are for sale. They also say that businesses in the construction zone experienced a 30% sales decline in 2015 and are expecting a 50% decline in 2016.
Deaths reported in bus accident – A passenger and the driver of a bus headed to Macas from Cuenca were reported dead after the bus fell into the Rio Paute in Morona Santiago Province. Five others passengers are still missing while one passenger escaped but suffered injuries in the Thursday night accident. Police say the bus was traveling at high speed when the accident occurred.
