Hola, Todos – There will probably not be a periodico on domingo and there might not be one mañana either. It all depends on when other activities end and how much energy I have afterwards. I don’t think a trip to the zoo with 14 kids aged 5-12 is going to be a restful experience.

Teatro – “Ferguson y sus amigos” was played Thurs. in the Sala “Alfonso Carrasco Vintimilla” in the CCE. The play comes out of a children’s theater workshop run by “Atrapasueños” (Dream Catcher).

Danza – The Contemporary Dance Company of the U. of Cuenca will perform “De Abandonos, encierros y soledades” (Of Abandonment, confinement and solitude) el 8 & 9/12 a las 19:30 in the sala “Alfonso Carrasco” a the CCE. <I imagine a bunch of dancers hamming it up with theatrically tortured movements.> Cost: $15.

Teatro – “Lluvia” (Rain) will be staged el 13 & 14/12 a las 20:00 in the Sala “Alfonso Carrasco.” <Seems like some things don’t have strict rules – like what to capitalize. The same writer uses sala and Sala.> The work fuses the writing of Tennessee Williams and Eduardo Galeano. Cost: $8 and $5.

Art and Architecture conference – The II edición de las Jornadas de Historia del Arte y la Arquitectura started ayer and will run to mañana. <This writer is prone to 3 column inch sentences. By the time you’re half way through, you’ve forgotten how it started. King of clauses. Kind of like these posts – hard to read.> The conference had 3 themes: the intersection of art, architecture, city planning and landscaping; vernacular and cosmopolitan artists; and ways of circulating modern ideas.

“Huahua” (I think maybe it’s guagua – baby) – This short film by two young women was screened Thurs. in the teatro Pumapungo as part of La Orquídea. It’s a short documentary about a young couple who find out they’re going to have a baby; about their decision as to where they want to have the baby born and grow up – city or community; and about identity.

Mercado Diez de Agosto – A new cover has been installed under the skylight at the market. Before, the vendors had to put up umbrellas to protect their produce from the sun and they say the cover is working in cutting both heat and sunshine. Ventilation has also improved. The thermo-acoustic material used was tested before installation. Installation of netting over the roof to keep birds out started yesterday. <Was that another reason for the umbrellas? Did the birds fly around and poop all over the place?> Next week, lighting in the meat section will be improved with new LED fixtures. <It’ll only make the sight of all that raw meat hanging out in the open clearer for those of you who are bothered by stuff like that.> Construction of a new 3 story, 84 space parking lot in the calle Miguel Ullauri will start in 2018.

Budget – The Budget for 2018 was approved with the whole 71 member AP bench voting to approve. The opposition voted no – 20 votes, abstentions – 3, no vote – 7. The opposition’s concerns were overestimation of income, and the amount going to current expenses. The Budget also showed debt at 28.8% of GDP with predictions that it wouldn’t go over 40% until 2021.

CNE – Juan Pablo Pozo, president of the Consejo Nacional Electoral, will not accept an extension of his term, and will return to academics and his regular life after his 6 year appointment is up. <His job is one where you get no appreciation.>

IMF – The Fondo Monetario Internacional expressed being favorably surprised by the growth in the Ecuadorian economy which beat the IMF’s estimates. According to the Banco Central, in the 2nd quarter, year on year growth of the GDP was 3.3%. The IMF predicted a growth rate of 0.2% in 2017and 0.6% in 2018.

Mila – Police are looking for whoever shot Mila, a beagle, who was outside, near the door to her house.

Bus – An urban bus rear ended a taxi on González Suárez y Reino de Quito ayer “alrededor” (around) 14:50. The taxi was destroyed, and the driver and 2 passengers were taken to hospitals. Transit agents detained the bus driver and said he tested positive for alcohol. <Great – not just the jack rabbit starts and stops, but now they’re DUI?>

There will be over 90 stands including home decorations, clothing, gastronomy, jewelry, organic food, superfoods <Sorry, but they ain’t nothin you can eat will make you 26 again.>, cosmetics, and desserts. Hours are: viernes, 1/12 from 12-21:00, 2 & 3/12 from 11-21:00.

Golden Prague Pub – The restaurant has espanded its menu beyond bar food to contemporary Czech food, risotos, vegetarian, schnitzels, a T-bone, roast beef, salmon and more.

Amenidades –

“Musica e Identitad” (Music and Identity) – This program with different musical and scenic art genres will be Friday a las 20:00 in the plazoleta Santo Domingo.

Internacional –

Venezuela – Pres. Maduro will run again in 2018 in the elections on 10/12.

Argentina – Ex-pres. Cristina Fernández, along with 22 other senators who were elected in octubre, will be sworn in in diciembre.

Bolivia – The ministry of Cultures and Tourism estimated that the passage of the Dakar Rally through the country will generate $149 million and also generate tourism beyond the rally.
