Hola, Todos –

Pagina cultural –

Concert – by Da Pawn and La Máquina Camaleón on 25/2 at 20:00 in Space (Remigio Crespo y Unidad Nacional – that’s the club that’s in the airplane).  Cost $10.00.chl jeanne logo

A workshop – on creativity, “Taller de Creatividad.  Navegando por los confines de la mente” (Creativity Workshop.  Navigating through the confines of your mind.  And that’s your word for the day – mente = mind.  Mint is menta, and that’s why my Spanish can be unintelligible.  I forget if words end in “e”, “o”, or “a”.). The workshop will be Tue (22/2) at 15:00 in the Colective Lakomuna (on the stairs at the Plaza Otorongo.

Puppet show – “Lukas y los fantasmas,” a show for adults under the supervision of a child (that’s what they wrote – kind of like getting into Children’s Fairyland Park in Oakland – no adults unless accompanied by a child.) in the Teatro Bolsillo del Sono (Pres. Córdova 6-83) on Fri & Sat, 26-27/2 at 16:00.  $5.00.

Articles about –

International trafficking stolen cultural goods –  Ecuador has repatriated over 12,000 pieces between 2010 and 2015 from Perú, Italy & Germany.

A series of children’s books – “Antiprincesas” breaks stereotypes about women’s roles in Latin American history. Three books about Frida Kahlo, Violeta Parra and Juana Azurduy will be launched on Sun at 11:00 in Sono.

Otras cosas –

Titular – Candidatas a Miss Ecuador lucen joyas y calzado azuayo (Miss Ecuador candidates show off Azuayan jewelry and shoes).  There was a fashion parade in Gualaceo today and the group photo has some really pretty shoes.  All with heels too high to wear safely.)

Your sliver of life article today – is about the competition for 1069 radio and TV frequencies good for 30 years.  Arcotel, the Telecommunications Regulatory Agency is distributing frequencies according to the Law of Communication formula – 33% to private media, 33% to public media and 34% to community media.  (Is there that much community media out there? Or will there be a lot of joint ventures between community groups and private, for profit broadcasters?)

Road destruction – is on the increase.  Much of it is due to Tranvia work. Also utility companies and private contractors dig up the road to do work and then don’t repave so potholes develop and get bigger.  (I bet you drivers know the major potholes along your daily routes.)

Pedestrian overpasses – will be built above Las Américas at the Universidad Católica de Cuenca and the redondel at parque de Miraflores.  They will be accessible with a ramp slope of less than 8% and have a green space and plaza at the ground level.

Internacional –

Bolivia – The referendum for a constitutional amendment that would have allowed Pres. Morales to run again lost.  Preliminary polls show “no” votes between 51 and 52.3% and “yes” votes between 47.7 and 49%.

Venezuela – Pres. Maduro issued a decree raising the minimum wage 52% starting this March.  (Wonder if anyone’s in any shape to pay it?  Sounds like someone who doesn’t want to go back to being a bus driver’s helper.)

And that´s all for today so Hasta Mañana –

Jeanne
