Ecuador advances to Copa America quarterfinals with 4-0 win over Haiti; faces the U.S. Thursday night in Seattle

Ecuador defeated Haiti 4-0 Sunday night in New Jersey and advanced to the quarterfinals of Copa America competition for the first time in 20 years. The Tri-Color’s victory set up a Thursday night match with the host U.S. team in Seattle.

In the first half of a game dominated by Ecuador, Enner Valencia scored the first goal and set up the second with a pass to Jaime Ayovi. In the second half Christian Noboa scored on a pass from Jefferson Montero while Antonio Valencia scored the final goal on a pass from Enner Valencia.

Ecuador, which needed a two-goal advantage to advance to the next round of play, finished second in their group.

Thursday’s game with the U.S. will be a rematch of last month’s friendly in Dallas that the U.S. won 1-0 on a last minute goal.
