If you’re from the U.S. and assumed you’d miss out on an old-fashion 4th of July party in the park this year, you’re in luck.

Supermaxi supermarkets, La Europea delis, along with co-sponsers Cuenca Dispatch, GringoTree, Hearts of Gold, and CuencaHighLife, are hosting a traditional 4th of July celebration Tuesday night in Parque de la Virgen del Milagro on Av. Ordoñez Lasso. The sponsors say that the event is not only for U.S. expats, but for all expats living in Cuenca, as well as for Cuencanos who would like to join the fun.

According to Supermaxi regional manager Alvaro Rothembach, the event is intended to show appreciation to the foreign residents who shop at Supermaxi. “We want to say a sincere thank you to all the expats who have chosen Cuenca as their new home and who have shopped with us during the past year.”

The celebration is open to the public and features free hotdogs and lemonade, a screening of the 1989 movie classic “Field of Dreams,” with fireworks to follow. Gates open at 7pm.
