Ecuador wins top tourism prizes again in the World Travel Awards competition
Ecuador took three first prizes in the 2017 World Travel Awards (WTA) competition held in Phu Quoc, Vietnam on Saturday night. It won another top honor in the “best spa resort” category.
For the fifth consecutive year, Ecuador was picked as the top “green destination” for promoting environmentally conscious tourism.
In addition, the beaches of the Galapagos Islands were named the world’s best for the second year in a row and the Finch Bay Resort on Santa Cruz Island, Galapagos, kept its first place ranking as the best “green hotel” in the world.
In a new competition category, the Mashpi Lodge, located in the rain forest north of Quito, won top honors as best spa resort.
Among other finalist countries for best “green destination” were Norway, Belize, the Seychelles, Costa Rica, the Fiji Islands, Madagascar, the Maldives, and Peru.
Those competing for the world’s best beach included Boracay (Philippines), Cancun (Mexico), Diani Beach (Kenya), the Maldives, Máncora (Peru), Maui (Hawaii, United States), Miami Beach (United States), Placencia Belice (Belize), Riviera Maya (Mexico), and the Algarve (Portugal).
