Passengers, taxi driver stop drunk bus driver

A taxi driver and passengers detained the drunk driver of a city bus on Wednesday. The taxi driver blocked the bus’ path after the he noticed it weaving erratically in traffic. Then, passengers pulled the driver out of his seat and held him until police arrived.

The drunk bus driver was detained by passengers until police arrived.

The incident was recorded on two videos posted on Facebook by passengers.

According to witnesses, when the driver of the lLinea 12 bus ignored passenger pleas to stop, he began shouting that yes, he was drunk and that it was no one else’s business. He continued to drive and shout as passengers gathered next to the driver’s seat.

The driver was taken into custody by transit police and is serving a 90-day sentence based on his level of intoxication. In addition, he faces a large fine. The privately owned bus was temporarily detained.

The Cuenca Transportation Chamber, which represents bus drivers and owners, said that pending a court hearing the driver will be expelled from the union and will not be admitted again.
