The fair is being organized by the Chamber of Construction, Architects’ Association, and Andher Corp. There will be construction materials, finishes, equipment, decoration, and more from different manufacturers. There will also be special offers, liquidations, and discounts.

Otras cosas –

Titular – Travesía a pie por promesa (Going by foot to fulfil promise) – Weariness, cold

The Virgin of Cisne is escorted through the streets of Loja.

and blisters are not reasons for faithful Catholics to abandon their pilgrimages from Cuenca to la Virgen de Cisne in Loja. <Lots of pilgrims in Crocs in the photo – 4 out of 8, but no Merrells or Keenes or other fancy footwear.>

Police – There are 2,000 spaces for aspiring police officers. Next week is the last for young people between 18 & 25 to apply. Applicants must be a minimum of 1.68 m. tall for men and 1.57 for women, and must have a high school diploma. Applicants must be Ecuadorians with no criminal record or under pending criminal proceedings. The police are looking to fill 200 slots for street cops with 130 men and 70 women and 1,800 servidores técnicos operativos <I have no idea what those people would do> with 1,530 men and 270 women.

Gold medals – Azuayos counted for 5 of the 10 gold medals won by Ecuadorians in the Panamerican games in Lima.

More no parking zones – Transit planners are creating new zones marked with yellow “no parking” paint in sectors such as the escuela Ciudad de Cuenca and the Vicente Mideros park. Another alternative they are proposing instead of curb marking is adding more paid parking spaces which would also generate income. A representative of the Dirección de Gestión de Movilidad (Mobility Management Department) said the main criteria for a yellow zone is a street that isn’t wide enough to allow parking on both sides and two-way traffic. <Don’t most streets meet that criteria – even given the flexibility with which Ecuadorians describe lane width.>

Abortion – La Asamblea Nacional is debating a reform to the Códico Orgánico Integral Penal (COIP) to expand the reasons for legal abortions. Currently abortions are legal only if the life or health <Would that include mental health?> of the mother is in danger or if pregnancy is due to rape and the mother is mentally disabled. The reform to Penal Code would decriminalize abortions in all rape cases, “estupro” (statutory rape) with girls from 14-18, and incest (sex with a blood family member it would be illegal for you to marry). Also being discussed are abortions when the fetus suffers from serious malformations incompatible with survival and in cases of forced insemination through a medical procedure. The legislators are debating medical, legal and religious conflicts.
A doctor said that some 3,000 rapes are reported each year, and 2,200 children between 10 & 14 wind up pregnant. In most cases, the rapist is part of the household.

Milk bank – Babies hospitalized in the Neonatal unit of the hospital Vicente Corral Moscoso receive free milk when their mothers can’t feed them. The program is 10 years old and has had 11,700 beneficiaries from 9,800 donors.

Visas – Ecuador is requiring citizens from 11 countries to have visas. The countries are Cameroon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, India, Iraq, Libya, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Syria, and Sri Lanka.

And that´s all for today so Hasta ? –
