Otras cosas –

Titular – Acceso sur, entre obras previstas (South access, one of planned projects) – The Ministerio de Transporte y Obras Públicas is hoping to have at least 4 studies finished so construction can start. The projects include the southern entrance into Cuenca, construction of 4 interchanges on the autopista Cuenca-Azogues, a new 4 lane vía Cuenca-Gualaceo, and the construction of bike lanes connecting Cuenca-Azogues-Bibíán.
The southern entrance work would start at the redondel de Cumbe, go through Tarqui and into Cuenca. The preliminary cost estimate is $180 million.

Reactivating business along the Tranvía route – <A lot of the businesses that closed could probably have weathered the construction – it was the years long delays that killed them.> The city has identified some 1,770 businesses and is planning an initiative called “Voy a la Ruta” which will have 8 campaigns, and in noviembre & diciembre, 2 mini-campaigns. The campaigns will be until the last day of the year with each campaign category lasting 15 days. <Is that the Cuencano 2 weeks? As in “Hasta quince” or 15 calendar days. The categories are gastronomy, culture, fashion and style, technology, things for the home, return to class supplies, hospitality, and vehicles.

IESS – More than 1,000 patients a day are seen at the Hospital José Carrasco Arteago, the IESS hospital. 30% of them are children and adolescents, children of affiliates. According to the pharmacists, the hospital has 80% of the medical supplies to attend to the needs of its patients. <A subheadline says, there is a 20% shortage of medicines. Is the glass half full or half empty?>

Pet adoption – Peluditos Cuenca and Sara Soler, LGBTIH queen of Cuenca, are organizing a pet adoption fair el domingo a las 10:00 in the parque El Paraíso. There will be stands selling collars and clothing <for the pet, not you>, engraving ID tags, vaccinations, and parasite pills. Organizers are asking people to bring donations of dog food for the shelter dogs.

Police controls – The Policía Nacional is strengthening crime prevention controls in areas with large numbers of people and points entering and leaving Cuenca. They are checking for arrest warrants, arms, illegal substances, and documents. <Your cedula, never leave home without it.>

Internacional –

Brasil – A young man whose face was covered with a scarf, hi-jacked a city bus in Río de Janiero. During 4 hours, 6 passengers were freed. The hi-jacking ended with an elite francotirador (sniper – your word for the day) shooting the hijacker from the top of a fire truck.

And that’s all for today so Hasta ? –
