Belonging Abroad: Inti Raymi, Community & Participation
What can a traditional festival teach us about belonging?
As Inti Raymi approaches, I’ve found myself reflecting on questions that many of us encounter while living abroad:
– How do we build meaningful connections with the places where we live?
– What is the difference between observing a culture and participating in it?
– And what can living traditions teach us about community, reciprocity, and belonging?
On June 17, I’ll be hosting a free online community conversation exploring these questions through the lens of Inti Raymi and the Andean seasonal celebrations known as the Raymis.
Rather than a history lecture, this will be an opportunity to explore the values, relationships, and worldviews reflected through these traditions—and to consider what they might reveal about our own experiences of culture, community, and place.
Whether you’re planning to attend Inti Raymi in Sígsig, are curious about Ecuadorian culture, or simply interested in conversations about belonging and participation, you’re warmly invited.
