Meet FAAN SuperDog: Daphne

Gentle. Resilient. Completely full of love.

At 8 years old, Daphne was abandoned on the streets because of her illness. She suffers from Cushing’s disease—a condition that requires lifelong treatment but absolutely does not diminish her capacity to love, bond, or enjoy a peaceful, happy life. Wrapped in her cozy sweater and taking her daily medication, Daphne is calm, affectionate, medium-sized, and ready to be someone’s best friend.

🐾 Rescue Is Not for the Weak of Heart

Nor is the undertaking of building Ecuador’s first modern SuperDogs Sanctuary—a safe haven designed for Cuenca’s most vulnerable dogs.

Every day, FAAN President José Gómez personally manages the care of more than 120 rescued dogs. He shows us the raw reality of animal suffering in our city: dogs abandoned, injured, starving, or abused—including dogs found eating food mixed with cut glass.
Through videos and daily rescue work, José reminds us why our mission matters and why cultural change must begin now.
