What happens to your donations of clothing and household items at Hogar de Esperanza? First and foremost, your donations are provided directly to individuals and families in our community who are most in need. We carefully ensure that each item reaches someone for whom it will make a meaningful difference.

Any additional items that remain after these direct donations are sold in our Esperanza Thrift Shop. All proceeds from sales at the thrift shop go directly back into supporting Hogar de Esperanza’s vital programs and services, helping us continue our mission to assist those facing poverty, illness, and other challenging situations.

Are you moving soon—whether across town, to another city, or perhaps returning to your home country? Do you have items left over after your moving sale or belongings you simply can’t take with you? Let us help you turn these extra items into powerful support for those in need.

We gladly accept all types of donations. You can drop off your items at the Expat Services Center, located at 9-78 Juan Montalvo, between Bolivar and Gran Colombia, Monday through Friday, from 9 AM to 4:30 PM.

We also offer convenient pick-up services for your donations. To schedule a pick-up or inquire further, please get in touch with us—we’re here to make it easy for you to make a difference.

According to current regulations, the minimum income for retiree and pensioner visas must be three times the basic salary of a worker in Ecuador. This year, the basic salary is $482, therefore the minimum income for retirees and pensioners is $1,446. If you do not meet this income requirement, you will not be eligible for a two-year temporary residence visa in these categories.

For any questions or concerns regarding this information or any other immigration categories, please contact Dr. Lina Ulloa, an immigration attorney with over 20 years of experience.

Hi, my name is Sandra. I am offering tutoring services to adults of different levels of Spanish.

I am a passionate tutor; I teach through practice and for my lessons I use the Eclectic method which is a language teaching technique that combines various approaches and methods depending on the objectives and the abilities of the students. Therefore, I always adapt my lessons to the needs, learning styles and interests of each student. You just need to tell me if you need help in grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary, writing or conversation.

I have experience teaching Spanish to foreigners living in Ecuador and abroad, so I know very well the challenges that come with learning a new language, but don’t let yourself be intimidated, I can help you.

Please do not hesitate to contact me for more information (rates, schedules, etc.) and if you wish we can have a 30-minute free session.

To protect your investment in real estate in Ecuador, you should take into consideration the following:

1. The purchase and sale must be made through a public deed granted in an Ecuadorian notary’s office.
2. Some taxes must be paid by the buyer and other taxes must be paid by the seller.
3. The taxes and fees to be paid by the buyer are:
a. Municipality Taxes as buyer (ALCABALAS)
b. Notary Fees
c. Property Registry Taxes

4. The tax to be paid by the Seller is Capital Gains (PLUSVALIA).
5. You must make sure that the real estate is free of any charge or prohibition, by means of a certificate obtained in the Property Registry Office.
6. It is necessary to check if there are any outstanding debts on the seller name or on the property in the Municipality.

Recently it has been verified that many have lost the opportunity to be regular in Ecuador due to bad information received by some facilitators.
The Visa process is a legal issue that must be carefully handled and processed and strictly adhered to the law.

Questions? Don’t hesitate to ask.

ALL CATEGORIES OF TEMPORARY VISA HAVE NO RESTRICTION OF STAY IN ECUADOR. To apply and to obtain the Permanent Visa, the Law in art. 63 establishes that the foreigner must stay 21 continuous months in Ecuador. On this continuity, the Regulation to the Law in art. 84 in the last paragraph, grants the foreigner 90 days to be outside the country within the two years of temporary residence.

❤️Fundacion FAAN is happy to be your Love Connection!

This gorgeous 18-month-old sheepdog girl was rescued and lovingly fostered by my wonderful friend Barbara Saber, and she is truly something special. Honestly, if my house weren’t already overflowing with furry personalities, Sadie would have joined our pack in a heartbeat.

With her fluffy “Please Don’t Eat the Daisies” sheepdog charm, Sadie seems to float through life, spreading joy wherever she goes. Like many Old English Sheepdogs, she’s affectionate, goofy, intelligent, gentle, and wonderfully social. She adores people, gets along beautifully with dogs and cats, and thinks car rides are one of life’s greatest adventures. Even our cat, Yapa Butters, completely approved of her — and that is saying something. 😹

Sadie settled into our home instantly, as if she had always belonged there. She has that rare gift of making everyone around her smile.

Barbara is currently arranging Sadie’s spay surgery and a full medical workup over the next 10 days, so this precious girl will be ready for her forever family very soon.

If you would like to arrange a meet-and-greet at your home with this one-of-a-kind sweetheart, please reach out to us at info@FAANEcuador.org
We’re working to make Cuenca known as “The City that Cares about Animal Welfare.”

In order to buy real estate in Ecuador it is important to know that the purchase can only be made through a Public Deed granted by sellers and buyers in a Notary’s office in Ecuador. After the purchase-sale deed is granted at the Notary’s Office, it must be entered in the Property Registry so that the purchase is registered in the name of the buyers.

It is necessary to be aware that if you want to buy real estate, a private contract won’t work even if you have witnesses signing with the buyers and sellers since the law establishes that the only valid document that demonstrates an act of purchase and sale of real estate or a vehicle is through a public deed in the case of real estate; and, contract in the case of vehicles, granted in any Notary of Ecuador.

When a foreign citizen uses a real estate property as support for his/her temporary visa, this property immediately acquires a prohibition to sell or transfer also known as “prohibition to alienate”, this figure assures that this property will continue to serve as support for as long as the person holds the temporary visa. However, once the foreign citizen has obtained the permanent visa, he/she can request the lifting of the prohibition of alienation to sell, donate, assign or transfer the real estate in any way he/she wishes, since this prohibition will only be in force until the permanent visa is obtained.

In order to carry out the process of lifting the prohibition of alienation it will be necessary to have a “certificate of encumbrances” issued by the property registry of the city, which will later be submitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility so that they, as an authorized Institution, review this request and once it is admitted, order by means of an official letter addressed to the property registrar, the lifting of such prohibition.

If you find yourself in need of selling a real estate property with a prohibition of alienation and you need legal assistance, contact Ulloa Zamora & Delgado Legal Solutions, where you will be assisted by attorney Lina Ulloa, a lawyer with a doctorate in law and specialist in immigration law and real estate.
