This weekend marked a huge milestone for FAAN (Fundacion Familia Amor Animal) as we broke ground on the new property in the mountains of Tarqui for the most modern animal shelter in not only Cuenca and Ecuador but South America!
The Foundation is asking community members and animal lovers to give whatever they can to support a $10,000 matching grant in which every donation will be doubled to help us build quickly and be able to move our dogs sooner rather than later with your contribution to our shelter construction fund.
This extraordinary grant means your $10 gift becomes $20, $50 becomes $100 and a generous $1,000 gift is doubled to $2,000.
That’s a double impact.
Thank you, Thank you! As a community, we raised funds last year to purchase the permanent land, (10 acres in Tarqui) so the most abused, abandoned and senior dogs will always have a beautiful sanctuary while they are waiting for their Forever Home.

What does Hogar de Esperanza do with your donations of clothing and household items? First and foremost, we give them away to those who are most in need of them. Great care is taken to make sure that they get exactly what they need. Any extra items are sold in our thrift shop, where all of the proceeds go back into directly supporting the foundation’s work of helping those in need.
Are you moving soon – perhaps across town or maybe even back home – and you have items that you can’t take with you? Do you wish you had someone to come carry away those items remaining after your moving sale, that you don’t know what to do with? Were you just spring-cleaning last week, and came across clothes in your closets that you no longer wanted? If you would like to do some incredible things with those items you no longer need or want, let us turn them into something valuable to help those in need.
We accept anything that you wish to donate, and put it to immediate use. You can come by the thrift shop, which is located at 8-28 Juan Montalvo y Mariscal Sucre, to drop off items Monday through Friday from 9 AM – 5:30 PM. Alejandro is an honest, kind and hard working man who can help you with almost anything you are having trouble with. He first came to help us when our microwave broke and he made up a couple of thresholds we needed. He recently has sprayed our house for spiders and we haven’t seen one since. He cut our lawn which is large, bagged up the clippings and hauled it all away. All at great prices. We are very happy with him and have several other jobs for him. Happy St. Patrick’s Day Weekend from the FAAN-ATICS
The FAAN Foundation is Feeling the Luck of the Irish in presenting Tika now available for adoption. This beautiful girl was rescued after being bullied and abused by a pack of dogs when she was just a few months old.
At FAAN we support Community Brigades of concerned citizens who pull together to care for vulnerable street dogs like Tika. This includes supporting medical attention, fostering, and working with concerned animal lovers to find forever homes through adoption campaigns.
Tika is now with her wonderful foster mom and FAAN volunteer who has had this lovely lady at day camp, where she is socialized and loved by her dog friends and well trained including leash training. In the beginning, she was terrified for good reason. Now she is the perfect companion and she is ready for her forever home! Contact us to arrange a meet and greet.
As for St. Patrick’s Day, we have just a few spots remaining for our St. Patrick’s Day Party at La Guarida on Sunday at 3 PM. This event is part of the March Pot of Gold Match for FAAN in which every donation is doubled to build the new FAAN shelter in Tarqui. A $10 donation and dinner reservations are required.
