What does Hogar de Esperanza do with your donations of clothing and household items? First and foremost, we give them away to those who are most in need of them. Great care is taken to make sure that they get exactly what they need. Any extra items are sold in Esperanza Thrift Shop, where all of the proceeds go back into directly supporting the foundation’s work of helping those in need.

Are you moving soon – perhaps across town or maybe even back home – and you have items that you can’t take with you? Do you wish you had someone to come carry away those items remaining after your moving sale, that you don’t know what to do with? Were you just spring-cleaning last week, and came across clothes in your closets that you no longer wanted? If you would like to do some incredible things with those items you no longer need or want, let us turn them into something valuable to help those in need.

We accept anything that you wish to donate, and put it to immediate use. You can come by the thrift shop, which is located at 8-28 Juan Montalvo y Mariscal Sucre, to drop off items Monday through Friday from 9 AM – 5:30 PM. We also do pick-ups of donations, so feel free to contact us to arrange a time. Thank you so much for your support of Hogar de Esperanza – we could not do any of this without you.

• Lessons are given Monday thru Friday.
• Take lessons in the morning and/or take lessons in the afternoon.

During this program, you will…
· …learn topics of Ecuadorian and Latin-American culture, history, foods, arts, music, etc.
· …learn to handle conversations in different situations, such as, giving directions on a taxi, shopping, making a doctor’s appointment, etc.

Participants’ reviews:
“… CCN’s approach to teaching, patience and encouragement has provided a fun environment in which to learn. In just a few short weeks, most of us have learned and retained more than other classes and online teaching. We love our experience and look forward to each week’s class that is opening up a whole new world for us.”
Carol

“…. I really like the fact that they always type out our conversation on their computer screen as we are talking. I am a very visual learner and when I can also see on their screen what we are discussing, it really reinforces the entire learning process. This also means I do not need to take notes but can concentrate on the speaking/listening aspects of the learning process. When I get home, the notes which they created during our class are waiting for me in my email inbox. Now how cool is that!”

Cuenca, Thursday, July 12, 2024

Due to the announcement of the National Strike, the “Broadway In Concert” will postpone and reschedule its date.

We regret to inform our ticket holders that purchased tickets for the “Broadway in Concert” event that, due to the announcement of the National Strike, and subsequent decision to “Engine Shutdown” by the interprovincial transporters, scheduled for this July 16 and 17, the organization of the “Broadway in Concert” made the regrettable decision to reschedule the event. We attempted to use a private transportation company to transport the chamber orchestra musicians from Ambato to Cuenca; however, they too will support the shutdown of engines in protest of the security situation that Ecuador is experiencing.

Please know that we take these circumstances seriously, and it is our duty to protect the safety of our cast and ticket holders as well as ensure a top-notch, quality show is delivered.

Therefore, in consideration of the above, “Broadway in Concert” will take place on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at the Carlos Cueva Tamaríz Theater. (Av. 12 de Abril y Agustín Cueva)

Tickets previously purchased at Soi Ópticas may be used for the show on September 26, or refunded at the same place of purchase.

We appreciate your understanding of the situation and the decision taken for the well-being of all, and the support and acceptance of the great effort and preparation involved to deliver an outstanding event.

Have you had silver jewelry resized and/or redesigned? If you had a good experience, please share!

I have a Native North American piece I need to resize and have the removed extra pieces made into a necklace. It’s a signed artisan piece (silver & turquoise) and I would like to keep the original spirit of the piece, not a total redesign. Replacing a clasp, removing a section and put it on a chain.

If you’ve had a silver piece repaired/remounted/etc., please share. WhatsApp text after 10 a.m. please.

And thank you!

I totally agree with Mr. Martin Simmons. As a retired police lieutenant from a major city in the USA I cannot understand why people are so reluctant here to report a crime particularly as heinous as a home invasion. I read on Facebook how people were robbed and assaulted yet only posted it on Facebook. Does anyone believe that the Facebook police are gonna respond? I get it you want other gringos to know how it happened to you and to be watchful of these predators, I have had the pleasure of working with the Ecuadorian national police and I can tell you they do take their job very seriously. If the crime is not reported it’s not a crime therefore others will suffer because of your reluctance to report it or even dial 911. A friend of ours was brutally attacked and murdered in her home a few years ago, the national police had the suspect in custody within 24 hours. I can only tell you from a former police officer how impressed I was with how they handled the crime scene and apprehension of the offender. The suspect had been involved in other crimes in this area but because of the reluctance to report his deeds he was allowed to break in and murder this innocent woman, so if in the future you become a victim of a crime and don’t report it think of other potential victims these scumbags can hurt.

Time to mosey down to the King Smokehouse and see what the latest news might be. What did we find? Yummy big news for sure. Felix has some amazing goodies for you in stock right now. One, is his absolutely scrumptiously delicious Italian sausage, brimming with a burst of spices cradled in the finest ground pork. So perfect for everything – pizza, sauces, meatballs, you name it it fits. Then there is the ham – oh yes – the ham. Choose a bolito (small baby ham just perfectly sized) or a package of sliced ham (think sandwiches, piled high with this tender delight, or in the perfect casserole, or a fluffy morning omelet) with so many options. The hams are prepared with the utmost care and smoked to hammy perfection. How will you choose? I don’t have a clue – oh yes just come for some of each and you won’t go wrong! We are just across from Parque San Sebastian and open daily (except Sunday) for your convenience. Hello to all.
There are changes in the procedures for foreigners who wish to apply for a visa or for foreigners who have a visa but need to make other procedures with that visa, such as transfer, cancellations, obtaining an Ecuadorian ID (cedula) orders, and any other procedures. These procedures were centralized in Quito city, having to do the process online first to receive the instructions to be done.

It is expected that this change will provide a better and more agile service, but we must wait to see the results since it is known unofficially that after the approval of the visa, the process must be completed in the local Immigration office of the expat´s residence.
